Yate secure draw after positive performance
Bristol Manor Farm 1 Yate Town 1
Southern league Division One South
Yate Town secured their first League point of the season at Bristol Manor Farm in a competitive match, coming from behind to draw level just before half time.
Manager John Rendell rang the changes following the narrow defeat by Frome Town on Saturday with Aaron Parsons, George Box, Dan Dempsey and new signing Jospeh O’Loughlin making the starting line up with Kyle Tooze, Jaden Brown, Joseph Hall on the bench joined by James Bryne and Will Sage not involved.
The hosts started the brighter and, after some neat play down the left hand side, Evander Grubb is played through who finished the ball well from close range on 9 minutes.
A controversial moment then followed as Sam Pashen looked to have been slapped by Theo Llewellyn in an off the ball situation. The referee hands the midfielder just a yellow card.
The always hard working Dylan Lewis, produced a moment of magic just before the stroke of half time. Using a great bit of skill to chop the defender before eventually being brought down inside the box. The resulting penalty is finished by George Box sending the ball crashing into the roof of the net on 45 minutes.
Both sides had their chances in the second half. Aaron Sainsbury who was awarded Yate Town’s Man of the Match made a brilliant double save to deny Grubb. Down the other end, Aaron Parsons was denied from close range after a scramble in the box and a hopeful shot from distance by Dan Dempsey was saved well.
This was a deserved point for the Bluebells who were much more composed on the ball and played some neat football at times.
They now head to Wales this coming Saturday for an FA Cup tie against a Merthyr Town side who have won their opening 6 League games scoring 19 goals in the process.
