Holyport 0-1 Yate Town – Match Report

FA Cup Preliminary Round Saturday 19th August 2023

Holyport FC 0 Yate Town 1

Pashen Stike Secure Cup win

Yate Town headed east along the M4 for a tricky FA Cup tie against a Holyport side who had won in the last round and were full of running and endeavour.

Manager John Rendell made three changes in the side that lost 2-3 at home to Malvern last Wednesday, experienced striker Kyle Tooze in for George Box and also selected were Will Sage and Sam Pashen with Ryan Hillier and Aaron Parsons joining Box on the bench.

After quiet opening exchanges, it was Yate who got on top with Arron Sainsbury virtually a spectator as Yate pressed forward and got their reward on 42 minutes when Pashen fired home from a narrow angle. There was another chance to extend the lead further before the half-time whistle but after a goalmouth melee Ewan McMillan headed just over the bar.

Yate dominated the start of the second half with Kyle Tooze a constant threat as they continued to play some good football but the final 20 minutes saw the hosts mount a strong challenge against the Yate rearguard but they stood firm and Sainsbury was only trouble once as Yate saw out the game, for their first win of the season, and go into the hat for Monday’s First Qualifying Round draw.
