Basingstoke Town v Yate Town

Southern League Premier Division South

Tuesday 23rd September 2025 - Kick-off 7.45pm

Yate Town travel to Basingstoke Town, for the first ever meeting between the clubs, looking for their first points on the road having lost all of their 4 away league games so far this season, despite being undefeated at home.

After the 0-2 reversal at Dorchester Town on Saturday, Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, will be hoping that he can choose from a nearly full squad but there were a few knocks on Saturday so his final team selection may well be close to kick-off.

A well-known player in the Basingstoke squad is Charlie Austin, who started his career at Poole Town, before being transferred to Swindon Town in 2009 for £190,000 before moving on to Burnley for £1.2 million. He had a glittering career in the Premier League and Football League and last season played for AFC Totton in the Southern League. His only goal so far this season was a penalty in the opening game of the season.

Form Guide

Last season Basingstoke finished in 15th position in the Southern League Premier Division South and currently have a similar playing record as the Bluebells being on 6 points (but have played one game less), having won just one League game, the opening day fixture at home to Wimborne (2-0), having drawn 3 and lost 3 with a goal difference of minus two, having scored 9 times and conceded 11 goals.

On Saturday they lost 1-3 at home to Havant & Waterlooville, conceding three times just before half-time, the other losses being a 2-3 defeat at Bracknell and a 1-2 defeat at home to Hungerford. Basingstoke have drawn, all 1-1, at home to Plymouth Parkway, at Evesham United and Taunton Town.

They were knocked out of the FA Cup in the First Qualifying Round, losing 1-2 at Gosport Borough.
