On Saturday Yate Town make their first visit to Bemerton Heath Harlequins who gained promotion from the Wessex League last season – this being their first season, at Step 4, in the Southern League.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins Football Club are based in the Bemerton area of Salisbury, Wiltshire. They were established in 1989 as a merger of Bemerton Athletic, Moon and Bemerton Boys and play at Moon Park.

Following promotion manager Shaun Hale brought in a number of new players including Ryan Griffiths and Brendan Holmes from Andover, Lamin Jatta and Marcus Rex from Porchester, Henry Lander from Hungerford Town and Mitchell Speechly-Price from AFC Totton.

Bemerton have had an excellent start to their League campaign and are currently in second position in the League having won 5 of their 7 matches gaining 16 points with wins against Tavistock, Frome Town, Hamworthy and their last 2 away games have seen wins at both Exmouth and Larkhall. Only Bishop’s Cleeve have defeated Bemerton in the League

In the FA Cup, Bemerton lost at home 2-3 to Petersfield Town following at 1-1 draw in the Preliminary Round. In the FA Trophy they had a fine 5-2 win at Westbury in the First Qualifying Round before losing 0-3 at home to Frome three weeks ago.

Yate Town caretaker manager Darren Mullings, despite last week’s narrow defeat against undefeated Mousehole, saw many positives and hopes that the side can eliminate the types of mistakes that prevented Yate taking a least a point from the game. He still has full-back James Bryne out through injury and Joe O’Loughlin has departed for Australia following gaining a masters degree at Bath University. He had planned to be abroad for a couple of years but now, a change of plans means that he will return to this country before Christmas and it is hoped that O’Loughlin will then return to the club.

Darren Mullings has been very active looking to bring new faces into the squad and he has now been able to sign striker Callum Hutton (19) from Bristol City and defender Will Larvin (18) from Bristol Rovers – both on initial one-month loans. Larvin was the Under 18 Bristol Rovers Player of the season last season. Both players will be in the squad to face Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Saturday.

Meanwhile, forward Kyle Tooze has gone out on loan for 2 months to Southern League Premier South club Gosport Borough. We wish Kyle all the very best while he is at Gosport.

The address of the ground at Bemerton is Western Way, Bemerton Heath SP2 9DR Salisbury, Wiltshire. The journey of 55 miles should take about an hour and a half from Yate for those Yate Town fans wishing to drive to the game.
