MATCH PREVIEW: Bemerton Heath Harlequins (H)

Match Preview
Yate Town v Bemerton Heath Harlequins
Saturday 13th January 2024 – kick-off 3.00pm

Yate Town entertain Bemerton Heath Harlequins on their first ever visit to the South West Interiors Stadium and will be looking to redress the balance after a 0-4 reversal in Wiltshire on a very warm early October afternoon. The Salisbury based side were 4-0 up at half time with goals from Stuart Green, George Britton and two from Lamin Jatta.
However, the visitors will find a very different type of opposition as the Bluebell have started to hit the right note, especially after their 4-1 win against Larkhall on Tuesday evening.

Joe Hall during second half action at Bemerton last October.

Following on from 3 draw in their last 4 games, including last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Malvern, the Bluebells gained their first win since October 21st (their previous 8 games seeing 4 draws and 4 defeats) when they triumphed against Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday evening with all three new signings scoring.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings will be looking for back-to-back wins for only the second time this season and hopes to pick from a similar squad as Tuesday night. Lewis Hall is back in training but may not be ready for Saturday’s game.
The club will be looking for a good attendance and hopefully it won’t be as cold as it was on Tuesday evening – so come along and be entertained by your local side.

Our opponents:
This is Bemerton’s first season at Southern League level after back-to-back promotions and via the Wessex League Division 1 and the Wessex League Premier Division last season. They have adjusted well to the higher level and have been in or around the play-off places all season.
Last Saturday they lost 0-3 at in form Frome Town, however, their previous two games saw them win 3-2 at Bashley and a 2-1 win at home to Tavistock. Bemerton currently sit in 6th position in the League table having gained 30 points from 19 games, having won 9, drawn 3 and lost 7 – scoring 33 League goals and having conceded 31.

Three players to watch:
Bemerton have recruited well and star defender is Pascal Kpohomouh who is an athletic ball playing defender who has impressed since joining the club at the start of our Southern League debut campaign. Pascal previously signed a professional contract at Southampton and has been capped by England at U16, U17 and U18 level in the same age group as Phil Foden (Manchester City) and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal).
In midfield is Stuart Green joined in January 2023, helping the club gain promotion to the Southern League and has vast experience in the Southern League and previously reached the FA Trophy semi-finals with Bognor Regis. Up front Lamin Jatta is an unpredictable pacey attacking player who brings energy and excitement to our front line. After impressing for US Portsmouth against Bemerton, Jatta joined us in the summer of 2023.
