Cribbs v Yate Town

Match Preview – Cribbs v Yate Town

Saturday 16th December – kick-off 3pm

With the wet weather plus also a weekend of frost it has been more than a frustrating time for the players, officials and volunteers at Yate Town FC with only one Southern League fixture being fulfilled since 4th November, this being the 1-1 at draw at Bideford on 18th November – so everyone is hopeful of seeing action this weekend as the Bluebells make the short journey to play Cribbs.

Manager Darren Mullings has been working hard with the players to keep up their fitness levels (see below) and this Saturday’s game at Cribbs will be the team’s first game in 4 weeks with the following game being a home game on December 23rd when Bashley are the visitors.

Joe Hall served his one match ban at Bideford and will be available for selection, however, Chris Peck picked up his fifth booking of the season at Bideford and will serve his one match ban so apart from Chris Peck, Darren Mullings has a full squad to select from. Finley Bell has had his loan from Forest Green Rovers extended until 29th December.

Our opponents

Cribbs gained Southern League status in 2023, after clinching promotion becoming champions of the Hellenic League after a 1-0 win over Wantage Town, their highest promotion in club history. Therefore, this is their first season at this level and they have adapted very well to the higher standard and currently sit in second position in the League table having gained 27 points from 13 matches, winning eight, drawing three and have only lost twice. They have scored 21 League goals but have the meanest defence in the division, having only conceded 13 goals.

Last month included a fine win against high flying Wimborne Town 2-1 at home with goals from David Duro and Harris Feltham. In fact, November resulted in 12 points from 4 four games with wins at Melksham 3-2, and at Exmouth by the same score and defeating Bideford 2-0 at home. Their last home game against Bashley was postponed a couple of weeks ago and last Saturday’s match at Larkhall was also a victim of the weather.

Cribbs play their home matches at The Lawns, Station Road, Henbury, Bristol, BS10 7TB. The ground consists of 3 full size grass football pitches and a 3G astro turf. The journey from Yate should take just under half an hour.

From the M5, J17, follow the signs to Bristol West & Clifton. On the A4018 dual carriageway, cross one roundabout and when you come to the 2nd roundabout take the 2nd exit (down the old bus lane). At the roundabout after Clifton Rugby Club, take the 3rd exit to The Lawns.
