MATCH PREVIEW: Evesham United (H)

Yate Town v Evesham United

Evesham United

On Saturday Yate Town entertain Evesham United and will be hoping to reproduce the display and form shown when the beat Exmouth Town 4-1 in their last home game in which Dylan Lewis’ goal was voted as Southern League Goal of the Week.

Following on from the narrow defeat at table topping Wimborne Town last weekend, manager Darren Mullings has been busy this week and will be hoping to include a new face or two in the squad on Saturday. Definitely involved will be Oli Jenkins (pictured below) who has signed following his departure from Cribbs. On the loan front Finley Bell’s loan agreement with Forest Green Rovers has been extended until the end of November.

The injury problems with some players are easing but Ewan McMillan will not be available following his fifth booking of the season last Saturday at Wimborne and so serves a one match suspension.

Following the club’s successful “Pay What You Want” game against Exmouth, when a season’s best attendance of 464 watched the match, it is hoped that many of those fans will return on Saturday.
Despite all the rain the club are confident that the game will go ahead but a precautionary pitch inspection will take place on Saturday morning.

The opponents

After a disappointing start to the season the side from Worcestershire are beginning to find their form having beaten Bemerton 5-0 away a couple of weeks ago but then last Saturday lost 1-2 at home to Bideford having Michael O’Regan sent off during the first half. Evesham played Cribbs away on Tuesday night drawing the game 0-0. The Robins currently occupy 16th place in the table (one place below Yate Town) with 10 points from 11 games, having scored 13 League goals and conceded 14. Last season, under newly appointed and vastly experienced manager, Mike Ford, Evesham finished in 4th place in the League but lost to Hamworthy in the play-offs.
Ford played over 500 Football league games for Cardiff City and Oxford United and then managed Oxford United before moving on to manage Oxford City, (2009-2014) leading them to promotion to the National League Southern Division. He then went to Banbury United (2015-2020) where he gained promotion from Evesham’s level in 2016, before establishing them in the Premier Division from that point. Mike is a UEFA A licensed coach, who has experience working with and developing young players, including being the Oxford United Youth Team Manager.
Evesham have a prolific goal scorer in the much-travelled Levi Steele who has scored 4 League goals in the past 7 games.

Evesham also include in their squad recent signings Leighton Tuodolo (21) who joined from National League South Chippenham Town where he had been there since August 2020 and midfielder Miguel Alves who has previously played for Highworth Town, Chippenham Town and North Leigh.  He also played for England Colleges Under 19s at the age of 17.
