Match Preview
Hungerford Town v Yate Town
Southern League Premier Division South
Monday 25th August 2025 - Kick-off 3.00pm
Yate Town travel to Hungerford Town for the third time in under a year, but this time it is for a league game following the two Cup games - last August and then in October.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, will have been pleased to keep another clean sheet in the 0-0 draw against Chertsey Town on Saturday but will be hoping that the team can also find the back of the net with just one league goal scored in their four matches so far.
Previous meetings
The clubs played each other in 4 consecutive seasons in the Southern League from 2009/10 to 20912/13 with Hungerford winning the first encounter 4-1 with Yate’s goal coming from Adie Adams and the last encounters, in season 2012/13, being a 1-1 draw at Hungerford with Scott Wilson scoring for the Bluebells and a 4-2 home win with Yate’s goals coming from Matt Groves (2), Ollie Barnes (pen) and Michael Meaker with an attendance of 167
Yate Town’s League record against Hungerford is as follows:
Won 2: Drawn 2: Lost 4: Goals scored 10: Goals conceded: 14
The clubs have met three times in the FA Trophy. Firstly, in season 2009/10, in a second qualifying round tie, when the teams dew 1-1 at Lodge Road with Jake Cox scoring a 47th minute equaliser just after half-time in front of a crowd of 135. In the replay Hungerford won 3-0 with 127 in attendance. The second meeting was in 2011/12, in a preliminary round tie, when Yate won 2-1 at Lodge Road with goals from David Stone after 10 minutes and a last-minute winner from Russ Church with 105 at the game.
And of course, there was the 3-2 win by the Bluebells at Bulpit Lane last October with goals from Ollie Dewsbury (2) and Ross Stearn. Dewsbury gave Yate the lead in the first minutes but goals just after half-time from a Louis Mc Gory penalty and Jacob Bancroft put the home side in front only for Dewsbury and Stearn to score in the final 10 minutes of the game to see the Bluebells through to the next round of the FA Trophy.

Ollie Dewsbury puts the Bluebells in front in the FA Trophy tie during Yate Town’s last visit to Bulpit Lane.
Eight weeks prior to that The Crusaders won 1-0 at Bullpit Lane knocking Yate Town out of the FA Cup at the First Qualifying Round stage with Jacob Bancroft scoring the only goal of the game after just three minutes.
