Yate Town v Bashley
Southern League Division One South
Saturday 4th January 2025 – kick-off 3.00pm
Be there to support YOUR local club.
Yate Town start 2025 top of the Southern League Division One South with 19 more league games to go until the end of the season and on Saturday entertain Bashley, looking to build on the 7 points from 3 games over the festive period, which culminated in an excellent 2-1 win at Bishops Cleeve last Saturday.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings and the players had no New Year’s Day fixture, as the scheduled game, at Exmouth, was played in September when both clubs had a blank Saturday after being knocked out of the FA Cup. Bashley have also benefited from a week’s rest as their game at home to Thatcham Town was postponed on New Year’s Day.
Darren Mullings will be hoping that he can pick from a full squad of players for Saturday’s game and club officials will be hoping that there is another good crowd at the South West Interiors Stadium.
Form Guide:
Bashley currently sit in 11th position in the league table, having played 22 games winning 8, drawing 7 and losing 7 games and gaining 31 points. They have scored 32 goals and conceded the same number.
Their last win was on November 27th when they beat Tavistock 3-2 at home with Charles Wagstaffe scoring a 90th minute winner. There followed three 1-1 draws - against Helston Athletic away, Mousehole at home and Malvern at home but Bashley then lost 1-2 at Bemerton on Boxing Day and 0-1 at Larkhall Athletic two days later before their home game against Thatcham Town was postponed on New Year’s Day.
Previous meetings:
Yate travelled to Bashley back in August, on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend, and came away with a 2-1 win. Will Larvin put the Bluebells in front early on (pictured below, partially hidden), and on a showery afternoon, it was Conor Whiteley who level the scores on the hour mark, however, substitute Ryan Hillier set up Lucas Tomlinson to score a late winner just after Whiteley had been sent off.

Last season the two teams met in August, in Hampshire, with the home side winning the opening day fixture of the season 2-0 with Kyle Tooze missing the opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot just after half time. The teams met at the South West Interiors Stadium just before Christmas and played out an entertaining 0-0 draw.

Action for last season’s game at the South West Interiors Stadium and Ewan McMillan goes close with this header in the 0-0 draw.
Bashley finished in 15th position last season and in both games against the Bluebells their goalkeeper, Ross Casey, was outstanding.
The clubs have met a few times in the past, the most recent before last season being in season 2015/16 which saw the Bluebells win 2-0 in the home game with goals from Laird and Cox and they got the double by winning 2-1 away with Bryant and Powell on the scoresheet.
Going back further in time in, season 1996/97, there were 9 goals scored in the home game with the Bluebells winning 6-3 with goals from Stocker, Lucas (pen), Iddles, Clarke and Lee (2) but generally results have been fairly even.
