Be there to support YOUR local club.
Yate Town entertain fellow Southern League Division One South rivals Bideford AFC for an FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round tie with the wining club receiving £2250 in prize money and the losing club £575.
Following their first league defeat of the season last Saturday at Exmouth, Yate Town won their FA Trophy replay at Bemerton on Wednesday evening and will be hoping that full back James Taylor has recovered from an injury that meant that he had to be substituted in the first half.
After 6 consecutive Saturdays away from home, this will be only the second time that the Bluebells have played at home on a Saturday since the opening game of the season against Holyport and the club will be hoping that fans turn out in numbers with the team placed in second position in the League and still in the FA Trophy.
If the game ends level at full time the tie will be decided on penalties with the next round being on Saturday 5th October.
Our opponents:
Bideford sit in 20th position in the League table with just won win from their opening 5 games having lost the other four, scoring just three goals and conceeding ten. However, in the last round of the FA Trophy, a couple of weeks ago, they beat Malvern Town 2-0 at home with second half goals from Josh Ewing and Ryan Turner. Bideford had to substitute their goalkeeper Lloyd Marshall in the first half with Finn Roberts replacing him.
Last Saturday, in the league, they were unfortunate to lose 1-2 at Helston when they conceeded a stoppage time goal having also had Aaron Taylor sent off just before half-time. Cieran Bridger had put Bideford ahead earlier in the game. Their only league win was on the opening day of the season when they won 1-0 at Bishops Cleeve with a late goal from Alexander Moyse. Their other defeats have been against Exmouth, Bristol Manor Farm and Tavistock.
In the FA Cup it was Melksham who knocked them out, winning 1-0 in Devon in the First Qualifying Round with Bideford having beaten Wellington in a replay in the Preliminary Round and Bridgwater in the Extra Prliminary Round.
Previous meetings
Last season Yate drew 1-1 at Bideford in November 2023 with Milo Murgatroyd scoring his only goal for the club when he scored in the second half to cancel out Lewis Hill’s first half goal. In the game at Yate in February the Bluebells won 1-0 via an own goal from Bideford defender Tyler Yendel.

Dan Dempsey in action in last season’s home game against Bideford.
The previous meetings before this were in season 2018/19 when Yate won 2-0 at home with goals from Peare and Langworthy but Bideford won their home game 3-1 with Warwick scoring Yate’s goal.
