Match Preview: Yate Town v Cribbs

Match Preview

Yate Town v Cribbs FC

Saturday 20th April 2024 – kick-off 3.00pm

With the season drawing to a close Yate Town still have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs in the Southern League Division One South and will be aiming to collect maximum points from their two remaining games – at home to third paced Cribbs FC and away to Tavistock on the final Saturday of the season – to finish on a high note.

After a 10-day period since their last game at Larkhall Athletic, Yate Town manager Darren Mullings, will be hoping to choose from a nearly full squad but Chris Lines, who was injured at Larkhall is out for the rest of the season having fractured his sternum and we all wish Chris a speedy recovery.

Saturday’s game will be the Bluebells last home game of the season and the club are hoping for a large crowd to celebrate the vast improvement made this year by Darren Mullings and his team.

At the game will be a number of ex-players and ex-managers who have been invited to this game as the club looks to keep links with those who have represented the club in the past.

Yate Town lost 1-2 at Cribbs on 16th December with the Cribbs goals being scored by David Duru and Bailey Croome with Callum Hutton scoring a late goal for the Bluebells.

Action from the game at Cribbs in December.

Our opponents:

Cribbs FC were promoted from the Hellenic League as Champions at the end of last season with this being the highest level they have competed at – and they have certainly coped well this season – occupying a play-off place since early in the season, with third spot secured and a play-off game guaranteed.

There was a change of manager last month with long serving and highly successful manager Richard Luffman departing and coach Steve Murray taking over the reins. David Duru is a player to watch out for who came through their Under 18s set up and is their leading goal scorer.

Recent form guide

In their last 6 games Cribbs FC have won four beating Exmouth, Bashley, Paulton Rovers and Melksham (and in those games they did not concede a goal), drawing 2-2 at Tavistock but lost to Bishops Cleeve 0-4 at home on 1st April.

Cribbs FC have a very solid defence having conceded just 42 goals in their 34 games played so far. Both Frome and Wimborne have conceded only 37 with Cribbs and Yate on 42 goals conceded – the best 4 defences in the division. Cribbs FC have won 18 of those games, drawing 10 and have only been beaten 6 times this season in the league, only bettered by the two teams above then with Frome having lost five and top of the table Wimborne just four. Interestingly both Cribbs and Yate have the same goal difference as each other, each side scoring 52 and conceding 42 with a goal difference of 10 – (now how strange is that?) – but it’s Cribbs who have 16 more points on the board.

Other things to know …

Before kick-off there will be one minute’s applause for Iain Prior, who was Yate Town FC Secretary until just under a year ago, who sadly passed away at the end of last month, aged just 59.

At the end of the game:

At the end of the game Darren Mullings would like to present each of the players to the fans so that it gives an opportunity for all the supporters to say thank you to each player for their efforts this season.

The players will leave the field after the game but then each player will be called individually and return to the pitch. Once all the squad is back on the field the players will chat to fans from the other side of the perimeter fencing before returning to the dressing room and the clubhouse once they are changed.

The match day programme –

We have had many positive comments about the upgraded programme and in the programme, there is a big feature on Yate Town midfield player Finley Bell, plus a host of action photographs and many interesting articles to read. James Taylor is also the player on the front cover.

Please remember that it is another item that not only helps promote the club but also is added revenue to the club.

Please try to bring the correct money with you (£2) – or you can also pay by card at the turnstiles.

Great Western Air Ambulance Charity Bucket Collection

Great Western Air Ambulance

On Saturday we welcome the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity for their final bucket collection of the season and are also pleased to say that Brian (Charlie the Bear) and Janet, who will be involved today are also attending our Player Presentation Evening on 3rd May. Thanks to Guy Lomas, who fans will know, being the son of director Bob Lomas and who sometimes works behind the bar and will be doing a skydive on 27th June. The money raised via a GoFundMe page, that is now live, will be split 50/50 between the GWAAC and the Bluebells Budget Booster. This is a brave thing that Guy is doing and a great gesture and we will update you further via the club website, newsletter and social media.

Player Presentation Evening Tickets are on sale

The end of season Player Presentation Evening will be taking place in the clubhouse on Friday 3rd May, from 6.30pm. Tickets, which cost £12 including a buffet, are now on sale and we are pleased with the response so far.

Both team manager, Darren Mullings, and Chairman, Mark Thorne will be giving their thoughts on the season and it’s a great chance to mingle with players and fans alike and to feel part of our club.

Tickets can be purchased at the home game against Cribbs by seeing Denny John and you can also contact one of the club officials who can also help you.

If you could please try to bring cash to pay this would greatly help.
