Match Preview: Yate Town v Hampton & Richmond

Yate Town v Hampton & Richmond

FA Trophy Second Round

Saturday 16th November 2024 – kick-off 3.00pm

Be there to support YOUR local club.

Yate Town entertain National League South Hampton & Richmond on Saturday for a Second Round FA Trophy tie. This is the first time that the two teams have played each other and for the Bluebells it’s the furthest that the club has ever made it in the FA Trophy.

This will be a stern test for the Bluebells who have welcomed back Ollie Dewsbury, on loan from Bristol Rovers but Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, will have to assess a number of knocks that players picked up in the 1-1 draw against Mousehole on Tuesday evening before deciding on his team selection. Both Charlie White and Theo Jeremy are cup tied so are therefore unavailable.

The club are hoping for a good crowd for this game with it seeing opposition two levels above the Bluebells and a non-league side who have got some pedigree and quality for the Yate side to test themselves against.

Our Visitors and their Form Guide:

Hampton is a suburb of Greater London on the north bank of the River Thames, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, England and of course is famous for Hampton Court Palace.

Hampton FC were formed in 1921 (changing their name to Hampton & Richmond Borough FC in 1999). They have been on the National League South continuously since 2016 but were also at this level for five seasons from 2007.

Hampton are currently in 11th position in the National League South are have found some recent good form having won their last three games – 3-1 at home to Eastbourne Borough, 2-0 at Chippenham and then last Saturday saw them win 4-0 at Hemel Hempstead.

Prior to that they lost 0-3 at Truro City and had two home defects when a single goal in each game saw both St. Albans City and Torquay United take the points home with them.

Earlier in the season Hampton lost 1-2 at Maidstone in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Their FA Trophy run last season saw them reach Round Five, having beaten National League Southend and Hartlepool (both after penalty shoot outs) before losing to Macclesfield.

One to watch:

Alex Wall - Forward (34) A centre forward with over 100 career goals, Wall arrived at Hampton & Richmond in May 2024 from Dartford. After starting his career with his local side Thatcham Town, Alex moved to Maidenhead United, for whom he scored 34 goals in 127 matches. His form with the Magpies earnt him a 2012 move to Luton Town, where he spent three seasons, earning promotion to League Two and playing at Wembley in the FA Trophy Final.

Alex has a habit of scoring crucial goals, having notched the winner to earn Luton a record-breaking points haul, and scoring the goal to take Concord Rangers to the FA Trophy final in 2020. During recent years, Wall has played for Hemel Hempstead Town, Woking, Havant & Waterlooville and Dartford.

Hampton & Richmond manager: Alan Julian

A hugely experienced goalkeeper, Alan Julian racked up over 450 career appearances before joining Hampton, including almost a hundred in the Football League. After starting out aged nine with his local league club, Brentford, the Ashford-based ‘keeper went on to win international honours with Northern Ireland. He represented his country at Under 18, Under 19 and Under 21 level, and kept a clean sheet on his Under 21 debut against Switzerland. ‘Jules’ has won a number of titles in his career, including the FA Trophy and the Conference South, and set a Conference record eight clean sheets in a row with Stevenage.

Getting him on board in autumn 2020 represented a major signing for the Beavers, as he brings fantastic organisational skills alongside his undoubted shot stopping ability.

Alan made 87 appearances for the Beavers before becoming their manager in May 2024.
