Yate Town v Larkhall Athletic

Southern League Division One South

Tuesday 24th September 2024 – kick-off 7.45pm

Be there to support YOUR local club.

Yate Town entertain Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday evening and will be hoping to keep their 100% home record at the South West Interiors Stadium this season, having won all of their first 4 games.

Following their FA Trophy win against Bideford on Saturday Yate Town and manager, Darren Mullings will be hoping that James Taylor will have recovered from a knock at Bemerton last Wednesday that kept him out of Saturday’s game. Both Lucas Tomlinson and Marlon Jackson took knocks against Bideford and it will be hoped that they will also be available plus that Ross Stearn might make his first appearance for the Bluebells after being out with an injury picked up in pre-season training.

Yate Town sit in second pace in the League table having won their first four league games and will hope to be getting back to winning ways in the league following their first league defeat of the season at Exmouth Town on 14th September.

Our opponents:

Bath based Larkhall Athletic sit in 17th place in the league table but have only played 3 league fixtures whereas most clubs have played five games. Their 3 league encounters have seen them lose their opening day fixture 0-1 at Didcot and this was followed by another defeat when they lost 0-3 at Tavistock but they got their first league win with a 3-2 victory against Westbury United (the game being played at Twerton Park, Bath, due to the fact that Larkhall’s ground improvements were not quite completed).

The club have faired better in their Cup games and are still in the FA Cup when next Saturday they face National League South Boreham Wood away in the Third Qualifying Round. Their progress started with a 2-0 win at Hartley Wintney when they entered the competition in the Preliminary Round. This was followed by a 2-1 win at Barnstaple and another away draw saw them win 1-0 at Frome Town, their goal being scored by Harvey Pritchard.

In the FA Trophy they went out at the first hurdle losing 2-3 at Tavistock having only visited the west Devon club in the opening day league fixture.

Larkhall will be looking forward to returning home on 5th October when they entertain Bishops Cleeve following the re-opening of their ground with a new 250 seater stand and a 3G pitch all completed.

Previous meetings

Last season Yate saw the clubs involved in games with plenty of goals with the Bluebells winning 4-1 on a Tuesday night in January with Nick McCootie scoring twice on his debut with James Taylor and substitute Jack Ball finding the net before a late Dawid Regula goal for the Larks.

Action from the home game last Janaury with Yate Town’s James Taylor in action surrounded by Larkhall defenders.

In another highly entertain game on 10th April the teams drew 2-2 with Joe Guest putting the Bluebells in front and Harvey Pritchard equalising on the stroke of half-time. A Calum English-Brown wonder goal put Yate in from before Ethan Mortimer-Taylor levelled the scores.

Earlier meetings go back to season 2018/19 and before with results generally fairly even.

Also:

If selected, and he hasn’t missed a game since signing in June 2023, Aarron Sainsbury will make his 50th appearance for Yate Town.
