Also making his first appearance at the South West Interiors Stadium will be 20-year-old goalkeeper. Joe Thomas, who is in loan from Championship side Cardiff City for the rest of the season, following Aaron Sainsbury’s hip operation last week.
Form Guide:
Malvern Town currently sit in 11th position in the league table – this being their second season in Step 4. They have won 9, drawn 8 and lost 8 times this season scoring 53 goals and conceding 48 – that’s a total of 101 goals in their 26 league games so far this season (likely to beat their 120 goals in 36 league games last season).
Last Saturday Malvern had a resounding 3-0 win at Melksham with second half goals from Alex Bell, Jack Watts and Sam Clark. However, Melksham hit a post with his penalty in the first half.
Their last 6 games have seen 26 goals scored in these games and Malvern have won two, lost three and drawn one. A 2-2 draw at home to Cinderford on Boxing Day was followed two days later by a 1-3 reversal at Didcot and one New Year’s Day they lost 1-4 at Bishops Cleeve. The side from Worcestershire then lost 2-3 at home to Mousehole before beating Bemerton 3-2 at home followed by the win at Melksham.
Previous meetings:
Last season was the first time that the two clubs met, with Malvern Town having been promoted from the Hellenic League. It was on 16th August 2023 and only Malvern’s second game at Step 4 and their first away game, here at Lodge Road, and they raced into a 3-0 lead with first half goals from Joseph Davies after 4 minutes followed by Harry Clarke on 35 minutes and Jordan Annear three minutes before the interval. The second half saw plenty of action and incidents as Malvern were reduced to 9 men with Chris Smith handling on the line (George Box missed the resultant penalty), Dylan Lewis scoring a magnificent 25-yard curler to put Yate back in the game before Lewis Platt was harshly sent off for a second bookable offence and then substitute Sam Pashen reduced the areas in injury time with a 20 yard shot but Malvern hung on in front of a crowd of 382, on a warm summer’s evening.
The return game on 6th January, played on a 3G pitch when many games had been called off due to the very wet weather, had far less incidents and ended in a 0-0 draw – this when 77 goals had been seen in Malvern’s 19 league games to date – Malvern having conceded one fewer than they had scored. Joe Guest made his second debut for the Bluebells and James Taylor also on the team sheet for the first time. Substitute Dylan Lewis had a great chance to score or Yate in the last 10 minutes but an entertaining game ended up all square.

Ross Stearn in action at Malvern earlier in the season when the teams drew 1-1.
This season the teams have already played each other with the game at Malvern ending 1-1 on 22nd October. Malvern scored after 29 minutes through Alex Bell – his being the first goal that Yate had conceded in the previous 392 minutes of football and Malvern looked to be heading for the 3 points, with Aaron Sainsbury making 3 excellent saves in the last 10 minutes of normal time but 5 minutes into added time Lucas Tomlinson scored to level the scores with a well-placed shot.
