Be there to support YOUR local club.
Yate Town entertain fellow Southern League Division One South rivals Melksham Town for an FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round tie with the wining club receiving £2450 in prize money and the losing club £625. In order to get to this stage of the FA Trophy, Yate Town have beaten Bemerton 3-1 away and Bideford 2-0 at home. If the game ends level at full time, on Saturday, the tie will be decided on penalties with the next round, the First Round Proper, being played on Saturday 26th October.
Last Saturday Yate Town drew 1-1 at Willand Rovers, conceding a late goal, but gained three more points with a 2-0 win at Cinderford and still top the table with 19 points from 8 games. Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, will be hoping that some of the injured players in his squad will soon be fit for selection.
Our opponents:
Melksham Town are having a very good season so far and are unbeaten in the league having played just five games, winning two and drawing three and sit in 9th position, having played fewer games than most teams in the division due to their Cup exploits. On Tuesday night they played only their fifth legaue game of the season when they drew 2-2 at Bashley. Their previous league game was on August Bank Holiday Monday, when they beat Shaftesbury 2-0 at home.
In the FA Trophy they have progressed to this stage by beating Helston 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Cornwall and Bishops Cleeve 2-0 at home whilst in the FA Cup they made it all the way to the Third Qualifying Round and were unfortunate to go out to Isthmian Premier League side, Carshalton Athletic 2-3 last Saturday, having fought back from being 0-2 down with goals from Robbie James and Mark Cooper, and then conceding a penalty in the dying seconds to go out. In the previous round they had beaten Southern League Premier Division Central side Banbury United, having draw 1-1 at home they won 3-2 in the replay.
Previous meetings:
Last season Yate Town got the double over Melksham Town winning 3-0 at Melksham last October with goals from Dyan Lewis, Callum Hutton, who was on loan from Bristol City and this was his first goal in senior football, and the third goal being scored by Dan Dempsey, this goal being chosen as the Goal of the Week across all Southern League fixtures.

Callum Hutton puts Yate Town 2-0 up at Melksham just after half-time.
In the game at the South West Interiors Stadium on 3rd February the Bluebells won 4-1 with first half goals from Nick McCootie and Calum English-Brown with Ralph Graham pulling a goal back for the visitors before half-time.

Calum English-Brown scoring for Yate Town in the 4-1 win last season at the South West Interiors Stadium.
Second half goals from Forest Green loanee, Finley Bell and a fourth from Oli Jenkins completed the scoring in front of a crowd of 419. The teams met previously in season 2018/19 with Yate Town winning both league games, 2-0 at Melksham and 3-2 at Lodge Road. A Preliminary Round FA Cup game back in 2011 saw Yate Town win 10-1, when Melksham were in the Western League, and a certain Tyrone Mings was playing for Yate Town that day.
