Yate Town v Poole Town

Southern League Premier Division South

Tuesday 24th March – kick-off 7.45pm

Be there to support YOUR local club.

Yate Town, this being the fourth attempt to play this fixture, are hosting Poole Town at the South West Interiors Stadium on Tuesday evening, and are in the middle of three consecutive home games, as the club have it all to do to maintain their Step 3 status following their promotion at the end of last season, against a side that have been in a play-off position for much of the season.

Form Guide

Poole Town finished in 14th position last season, in the Southern League Premier Division South but are now in fourth place and in their side is the division’s leading goalscorer, Shaquille Gwengwe.

Last Saturday Poole lost just their eighth league game of the season, when the lost at Gosport Borough, with the hosts scoring the only goal of the game.

The Dolphins have played 9 league games since they drew 2-2 at home to Yate Town on January 17th and have won 5 of these games, drawn 1 and lost 3. The wins were against Taunton (2-1), Berkhamsted (3-1), Basingstoke (2-1), Hungerford (3-1) plus an outstanding 2-1 win at leaders Walton & Hersham, the week after they played Yate Town. They recently drew 1-1 at Dorchester but the three defeats have been at home to Gloucester City (1-2), at Weymouth (0-2) and last Saturday, as mentioned, at Gosport (0-1).

Their league record this season is; played 35, won 19, drawn 8 and with 8 defeats, whilst scoring 70 goals and conceding 42 times.

Previous meetings

Prior to the meeting at Poole in January, (which saw Selim Saied put the Dolphins in front by half time, but Yate scored twice in the second half, through a Marlon Jackson penalty and a goal from Josh Bennett before Shaquille Gwengwe equalised from the spot in the 90th minute) the last time that the teams played each other in a League game was when the Bluebells were previously in the Southern League Premier Division South, in the early 2020s for a couple of seasons. In season 2021/22 Yate Town won 2-1 at home with two goals from Luke Hopper and they got the double by winning 2-0 away with goals from Ricardo Rees and Ollie Mehew. The tables were turned the following season (2022/23) when the Dolphins did the double, winning their home game 5-0 and 3-2 at the South West Interiors Stadium with Ross Staley and Rex Mannings scoring for Yate Town in front of a crowd of 261.

The Dolphins and the Bluebells have played each other 17 times before (15 in the league, once in the FA Cup and once in the FA Trophy) and these 17 games have seen Yate Town win 8 times, Poole Town winning 7 times and there being just two drawn games. Yate Town have scored 48 goals to the 30 by Poole.

James Taylor scores the opening goal in the FA Trophy game at the South West Interiors stadium in October, after 72 minutes, but two late goals from Poole’s Harvey Slade and Antonio Diaz saw the Dolphins through to the next round and below Marlon Jackson tucks away this penalty in the 2-2 draw in the league, at Poole last month.
