Yate Town v Weymouth

Southern League Premier Division South

21st March 2026 – kick-off 3.00pm

Be there to support YOUR local club.

Yate Town, with 8 games left this season, have 3 crucial home games coming up, which could well determine their future in the Southern League Premier Division South, as they fight to stay in the division following their promotion last season. Firstly, they take on fellow strugglers Weymouth on Saturday in a game that has great importance for both teams.

Form Guide

Following their relegation from the National League South at the end of last season, Weymouth have struggled this season and currently sit in 18th position in the league table, having played 35 games, winning 10, drawing 7 and losing 18 times and in the process scoring 44 goals and conceding 62. With Yate Town just 2 points behind and with a game in hand this is a real “six pointer”.

Weymouth have won their last 2 games, both 4-0, firstly at Tiverton Town and last Saturday at home to Hungerford Town and these two results have taken them out of the bottom four.

Prior to this they had lost four games on the bounce, at home to Farnham (1-2), at Uxbridge (1-5), at home to Havant & Waterlooville (0-1) and at Gloucester City (1-3). This was proceeded by 3 wins on the bounce, showing that Weymouth can compete with the best in this division as they beat Poole Town 2-0 at home, won 2-1 at Basingstoke and beat runaway leaders, Walton & Hersham 3-1 at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Previous meetings:

This will be the 9th time that the 2 clubs have met. They played each other in four consecutive seasons in the 1990’s; the first time in season 1994/95 when the teams drew 1-1 at Lodge Road, with Alan Theobald scoring for Yate and Senior for Weymouth whilst the Bluebells won 3-1 at Weymouth with Dave Clarke, Paul Hiron and Paul Dempsey getting the goals for Yate.

The following season Weymouth got the double over Yate, winning 1-0 on the south coast, with Housley scoring their goal, and 5-1 at Lodge Road with goals from Laws 2, Hutchinson, Housley and Powell, with O’Sullivan scoring for Yate.

1996/97 saw the Bluebells draw at Weymouth, with Ian Alexander scoring for the Bluebells and Bradford for the Terras whilst the Terras won 2-0 at Lodge Road, with a Laws penalty and another goal from Kelly.

The following season Weymouth gained promotion and won both games; 4-2 at Weymouth and exactly 28 years ago, on 21st March 1998, they won 3-1 at Lodge Road with Paul Tovey, now the club’s assistant manager, scoring the goal for the Bluebells.

The teams met again on 1st November 2025 with Weymouth going 2-0 in front with goals from Kieran Douglas and Brandon Goodship before Yate salvaged a point with two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game through substitutes Chris Zebroski and Lucas Tomlinson.

Lucas Tomlinson (far right) scores a late equaliser for Yate at Weymouth.
