Match Preview: Yate Town v Willand Rovers

Yate Town v Willand Rovers

Southern League Division One South

Saturday 11th January 2025 – kick-off 3.00pm

Be there to support YOUR local club.

Yate Town started 2025 with a 3-1 home win against Bashley last Saturday and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to 5 games and maintain their clear lead at the top of the table when Devon side Willand Rovers are the visitors to the South West Interiors Stadium.

Manager Darren Mullings has strengthened his squad with the signings of forward King Baidoo (24) and utility player Martin Lenihan (30) whilst Ryan Hillier has gone to Westfields FC on dual registration and Theo Jeremy has done likewise to Corsham Town.

Form Guide:

Willand Rovers currently sit in 14th position with 29 points from 23 games having won 7 draw 8 and lost 8 scoring 34 goals and conceding 31.

In their last 6 games, and like most teams there have been some postponements, they have won two: a 3-0 win at home to Cinderford and an impressive 4-0 win at home to Helston Athletic a couple of weeks ago with Finley Rooke scoring a hat trick.

At the end of November, they drew 0-0 at Bishops Cleeve but have lost games at Mousehole (0-4) plus a 0-1 reversal at home to Falmouth on Nes Year’s Day.

Previous meetings:

Yate travelled to Willand at the end of September and came away with a 1-1 draw in a game that saw three players make their debuts for the club – Bristol Rovers loanees Ollie Dewsbury and Jerry Lawrence plus defender Sean Keet (this being his only start for the club). In a tight game James Taylor (pictured below) put the Bluebells in front late in the game but Willand managed to force an equaliser through Josh Baker with four minutes to go.

Last season saw a 2-2 draw at Willand Rovers on a wet and windy Tuesday evening in February with Owen Howe scoring for Willand after 4 minutes but two Nick McCootie goals before half time put the Bluebells in front. The points were eventually shared when Ross equalised on the hour.

In their last visit to the South West Interiors Stadium, in April last year, the Bluebells ran out comfortable winners with goals from Calum English-Brown (pictured below) and Nick McCootie before half-time and a Joe Guest header in the second half made it 3-0.
