Bemerton Heath Harlequins 0 Yate Town 5 FA Trophy First Qualifying Round Saturday 7th September 2024
Yate Town cruised to victory in this FA Trophy tie in Wiltshire, on another wet afternoon, with substitute Stan Wyatt coming off the bench at half-time to score a hat-trick in just 26 minutes to help secure passage to the next round. Yate Town’s job was made easier with the sending off of Bemerton defender Pascal Kpohomouh after 23 minutes.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, changed things slightly following the FA Cup reversal at Hungerford, starting with James Taylor at right back with Stan Wyatt now on the bench and Will Christopher in midfield.
The home side started brightly and after 5 minutes James Taylor conceded a free kick on the left (for which he was booked) and Billy Brackley’s free kick was headed against the bar by Ronan Clancy. Yate Town responded with Wayne Nderemani shooting just wide and Will Christopher’s shot from just outside the area brought a good save from Paddy Creese in the home goal.
With the game evenly balanced Lonel Cirprian brought a good save from Aaron Sainsbury but mid-way through the half Marlon Jackson robbed Pascal Kpohomouh about 40 yeads from goal and as Jackson reached the edge of the penalty area, he was brought down. The referee immediately awarded a penalty but after consulting with his assistant decided to award a free kick to Yate on the edge of the area and sent off Kpohomouh. Will Christopher’s free kick was saved at full stretch by Creese and from the rebound Jackson knocked the ball over the cross bar from a couple of yards out.
Yate Town eventually made the breakthrough after 41 minutes when a fine run down the right by Will Larvin saw his cross met by Joe Guest at the far post (pictured below) and he made no mistake from 6 yards out to put the Bluebells in front.

Joe Guest put the Bluebells in front.
Lucas Tomlinson then had a shot from 20 yards deflected by a defender and Creese brought off a fine save to keep the ball out of the net.
Stan Wyatt came on after half time in place of the booked James Taylor with Will Christopher slotting into the right back role and Wyatt immediately made a nuisance of himself down the right. He was rewarded 6 minutes into the second half when he cut in from the right to shoot past Creese and score his first goal for Yate Town.

Stan Wyatt scored his first goal for Yate Town.
Having shot just wide Lucas Tomlinson turned provider, as his fine through ball found Stan Wyatt who then calmly slotted the ball past Creese after 58 minutes to put Yate three nil up.
With the 10 men Bemerton side now tiring they left themselves exposed at the back a number of times and after 77 minutes Marlon Jackson’s shot came back off the post and there was Stan Wyatt to tap in the rebound to score his first ever hat-trick in men’s football.

Marlon Jackson shoots for goal with Stan Wyatt close by. Marlon’s shot came back off the post and Stan rushes in to put the ball into the roof of the net for his third goal.

A couple of minutes later Lloyd James scored his first goal for the club curling in an excellent shot from the edge of the area to put the Bluebells five up.

Lloyd James, mostly hidden by a Bemerton defender (12) scores with this curling shot.
The drama was not over as in stoppage time the referee awarded Yate Town a penalty after a handball by a Bemerton defender but Marlon Jackson’s spot kick was saved by Creese.
This was another commanding performance by Yate Town and the club will be hoping for a home draw for the Second Qualifying Round tie to be played on 21st September. Before them however, they return to League action next Saturday with a rearranged fixture against Exmouth Town, in Devon – their sixth consecutive Saturday away from home.
