FA Trophy First Qualifying Round Replay
Wednesday 18th September 2024
Yate Town went through this FA Trophy tie, at the second attempt, to set up a Second Qualifying FA Trophy game this coming Saturday against Bideford, this being one of three ties involving teams from the Southern League Division One South that had to be replayed.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, made only one change from the team that played against Exmouth last Saturday, bringing back the unavailable Joe Guest, in place of Wayne Nderemani who was on the bench.
The Bluebells started at a great pace and with only five minutes on the clock, Stan Wyatt, who had scored a hat-trick in the first game, curled a delightful shot into the top corner of the net after cutting in from the left to put Yate Town into an early lead. Wyatt then added a second just six minutes later after a through ball from James Taylor found Marlon Jackson who crossed for Stan Wyatt to stab the ball home from close range.
With the visitors in complete control of the game Will Christopher headed over from a corner but midway through the first half James Taylor had to leave he field after going down injured and was replaced by Ross Staley. With half-time approaching Yate Town put together a flowing move down the right and Will Christopher’s pull back allowed Marlon Jackson to shoot but his effort was cleared off the line.
At half-time Bemerton made a substitution, with Marcus Smith coming on to replace Pascal Kpohomouhm. Early in the second half a quick break by Yate saw Lucas Tomlinson bearing down on goal but he was denied a shooting chance after being tackled as the Yate players appealed for a penalty.
As the half progressed Bemerton began to take more control of possession and started to stretch the visitors defence with long range shots that Aaron Sainsbury dealt with comfortably as they looked to get back into the game, in a period where they totally dominated play. However, when Sainsbury spilled one of these there was a mighty scramble in the Yate Town penalty area before the ball was eventually cleared.
In the closing minutes Wayne Nderemani came on for Lewis Hall and Ryan Hillier for Stan Wyatt but when play resumed with a throw in, Bemerton’s conjured up a goal with Bullard finding the back of the net and the home side could sense that an equaliser was on the cards. Aaron Sainsbury had to make a fine save to keep out a header from a Bemerton player but as the game went into stoppage time Marlon Jackson scored a fine individual goal to wrap up the game and send Yate into the next round.
This was a solid performance from the Bluebells and a good response following the game at Exmouth and the need for this replay.
Yate Town will now be up against Bideford on Saturday in the FA Trophy followed by a Southern League game against Larkhall Athletic at the South West Interiors Stadium on Tuesday evening.
