Yate Town travelled to London to play play-off hopefuls Chertsey Town and more than matched their opponents. After twice taking the lead, they may feel that they could have come away with all three points, in what was an evenly contested encounter.

Following their win against Hanwell Town last Saturday, Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, brought in Dani Gonzalez-Birchell into the team, for his debut. Chris Zebroski started in place of Marlon Jackson whilst Dan Ball was in for Lloyd James and Charlie Moody was not in the squad.

The Bluebells started brightly and with eighteen minutes on the clock a shot from Oli Jenkins was blocked. Chris Zebroski gained possession and set up Dani Gonzalez Birchill, whose volley from the edge of the area beat home goalkeeper Luke Roberts, for the Swindon Town loanee to score.

Nathan Minhas equalised for Chertsey Town after 36 minutes when he headed home a cross from the right but Yate Town restored their lead early in the second half when Archie Taylor headed home a corner from Dabi Gonzalez Birchell.

However, the lead was short lived as a long ball from the Chertsey found Minhas who laid the ball back for Bradley Wilson to score from the edge of the penalty area to level the scores.

A wonderful save from Yate Town goalkeeper, Aaron Sainsbury denied the home side as, at full length, he managed to tip over an effort from Nathan Minhas over the crossbar, and despite both sides looking for a winner, defences held firm, and the points were shared.

This was another excellent performance from Yate Town who go onto their next game against Evesham United on Easter Monday, still one place outside the drop zone.

Yate Town assistant manager, Paul Tovey, commented,” We probably would have taken a point before the game playing away to a free scoring team pushing for the play-offs, but actually after today’s performance we feel slightly disappointed not to come away with all three. But three unbeaten and another good performance sets us up nicely for the crucial game at home to Evesham on Monday. And crucially no more injuries, so we have a full squad to choose from.”
