Match report
Cinderford Town 0 Yate Town 2
Guest 47 Dewsbury 90+2
SL Division One South
Tuesday 1st October 2024
Yate Town, gained their third league away win out of five matches this season when they came back from the Forest of Dean with all three points, despite again encountering a packed defence to contend with against a side that were buoyed by their first league win of the season last Saturday.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, made three changes from the game at Willand Rovers bringing in Stan Wyatt to the starting line up in place of Ryan Hillier who was on the bench, Lewis Hall taking the place of Will Christopher who was unavailable due to illness and James Taylor for Sean Keet.
In a quiet opening period, with Yate Town kicking up the slope, it was Will Larvin who drove forward and tested home goalkeeper Joel Manning-Butler with a shot from the edge of the area in the eighth minute and five minutes later it was James Taylor who did the same. With Cinderford Town offering little attacking threat, as they packed their defence, Yate Town had the majority of the possession. After 25 minutes an excellent run down the left saw Jerry Lawrence cross and Lucas Tomlinson brought a fine save, low down, from Manning-Butler.

Cinderford did test Aarron Sainsbury with just one shot on target after 33 minutes when Andrew Lewis’ shot was straight at him. Jerry Lawrence shot over the crossbar following a corner just before half-time but for all their possession Yate Town could not find a breakthrough.
However, just two minutes into the second half a cross near the by-line from James Taylor was converted in the six-yard box by Yate Town captain, Joe Guest, to put the Bluebells in front.

Yate Town were now making more inroads into the home defence and Ollie Dewsbury had a cross shot deflected just off target after a corner and Manning-Bulter made an excellent save from Jerry Lawrence when he was put through on goal.
Just after the hour both teams made some changes and Cinderford added a couple of forward players in place of more defence minded ones to try to get back into the game as they then started to gain more possession and for the first time to pose a threat to the Yate Town goal. But their only real chances came when Sainsbury made an excellent block from Brooklyn Waugh and then Michael Symons headed an excellent chance wide of the post.
Yate substitute Ross Stearn then set up Ollie Dewsbury but his shot was blocked and Dewsbury went close again before a Lloyd James free-kick just missed the target. As Yate Town continued their search for a second goal, that would make the game safe, substitute Ollie Jenkins shot just over after a fine run down the left. The second goal did finally arrive in stoppage time as the two Bristol Rovers loanees combined and Ollie Dewsbury slammed the ball home after being set up by Jerry Lawrence, to score his first goal in senior football.

Ollie Dewsbury scores to put Yate Town 2-0 up.
The Bluebells maintained their top of the table position, and it was another game that saw them come up against a team who were content to pack their defence, deny space and look to score on the counter attack. But their patience, possession, organisation and skill saw them through to gain the three points that they thoroughly deserved, before they take on Melksham Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday, at the South West Interior Stadium.
