FA Cup Preliminary Round
Yate Town eased their way into the next round of the FA Cup with a comfortable win at Southern League Division One Central Kidlington, whilst at the same time managing to introduce two of the Under 18 squad to first team football with the late substitutians of Jacob Batt and James Fortune.
The only change from the starting lineup that beat Bishops Cleeve on Tuesday was Stan Wyatt coming in for the injured Lewis Hall with Ross Staley moving back to a defensive position on the left.
On a warm afternoon, the Bluebells started strongly and after only 4 minutes Will Christopher broke clear and slotted the ball past Tom Carter in the home goal. The referee gave the goal but there were protests from some Kidlington players that the goal should be disallowed for offside and during these Kidlington captain Jack Smith was booked. After consulting one of the assistant referees the goal was eventually chalked off and play resumed.

Yate were dominant in the opening minutes and Lucas Tomlinson curled a left footed shot just wide of the post and then Will Christopher’s header from a Stan Wyatt cross was saved by Carter.

Yate Town eventually went in front when Lucas Tomlinson was tripped in the penalty area and Marlon Jackson coolly dispatched the penalty after 22 minutes.

Kidlington tried to respond but the Yate Town defence was in fine form and the only other notable action in the next few minutes was when Stan Wyatt supplied another of his dangerous crosses and Marlon Jackson again tested Carter with a firm header.
Shortly afterwards a spectator collapsed at one end of the ground and play was halted by referee, Adam Gregory. Both clubs’ medical teams can only be commended for their swift action in looking after the spectator. An ambulance was called and the person was treated in the ambulance which was parked nearby and thankfully all ended well.
With all parties in agreement and with the situation now well under control, play was resumed and the only incident in the remaining few minutes of the half saw Yate Town captain, Joe Guest, booked for a foul on the halfway line.
The second half started with Kidlington trying to get back on level terms and John Dennis put a half chance well over the bar before Yate extended their lead when a free kick on the left taken by Lloyd James was flicked on by Joe Guest and Marlon Jackson was at the back post to steer the ball home.

Oli Jenkins then replaced Will Christoper on the hour and Stan Wyatt was replaced by James Byrne as Yate Town looked to extend their lead. Tomlinson blasted just wide and then a corner caused confusion in the home defence and again Tomlinson was just off target.
Dan Dempsey was booked for a foul and Dennis shot straight at Sainsbury for the hosts but a minute later, on 74 minutes, Tomlinson found himself in space in the Kidlington penalty area to score his fourth goal in four games to make it 3-0.

Lucas Tomlinson make it 3-0 to the Bluebells.
James Byrne then has a shot well saved by Carter and Marlon Jackson curled a shot just wide. Yate Town manager the decided to introduce the two Under 18 squad players, Jacob Batt and James Fortune for their debuts and they both adapted themselves well.
Yate Town rounded off an excellent performance, when following a Lloyd James corner, Joe Guest fired home with a superb volley from inside the Kidlington penalty area to make it 4-0.

This was another excellent performance for the Bluebells, as they now await their opponents in the next round of the FA Cup, when the draw is made on Monday. With no mid-week game, the squad now prepare themselves for a busy Bank Holiday weekend coming up with an away game at Bashley next Saturday, followed by the visit of Exmouth Town, who have also made an excellent start to their season, to the South West Interiors Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday, with a 3pm kick-off.

Ryan Hillier goes close with substitute Jacob Batt in support.
