Plymouth Parkway 1 Yate Town 0
Beardmore 77
Southern League Premier Division
Saturday 14th March 2026
Yate Town dropped into the bottom four in the table following this defeat at Plymouth Parkway, who leapfrogged them into 18th position, on goal difference, with the Bluebells one point behind in the congested bottom half of the table.
In an uneventful first half, when Joe Guest went closest after shooting over the cross bar following a corner, a spectacular rainbow over the ground was something of note to remember.
During the second half Plymouth Parkway started to get on top with Andrew Neal’s header just off target and shortly afterwards Neal was again threatening the Yate goal with a curling shot that was again just wide of the goal.
Rex Mannings fired an opportunity over the bar and at the other end Dan Ball made a good interception when the home side looked to threaten again.
Plymouth Parkway brought on Mitch Beardmore, signed on loan from Bath City prior to the game, and when Yate Town failed to clear their lines, it was Beardmore who was on hand to head home unchallenged from 8 yards out.
Yate Town, who up to that point had managed the game well, but without threatening, and a Marlon Jackson header, straight at Frankie Phillips in the home goal, was all that they could muster as they looked for an equaliser.
After the game, Yate Town assistant manager, Paul Tovey, commented, ”This was a game between two sides near the bottom of the table and neither side had the attacking quality to score a goal and unlock stubborn defences. It ended up with us making a mistake that ultimately cost us the game, when it had 0-0 written all over it. After conceding, we really gave it a go to equalise but without looking like scoring.”
With the next three games at home, the Bluebells need to pick up points against Weymouth, Poole Town and Hanwell Town before they enter the final month of the season, if they are going to move clear of the bottom four, a place that they have not occupied for over 4 months, having moved into mid-table not so long ago.
