Yate Town finally broke their away duck this season, picking up their first points away from home with this important win against Tiverton Town to move out of the bottom four of the Southern League Premier Division South and secure the double over their Devon rivals.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, went with both Marlon Jackson and Chris Zebroski up front with the injured Omar Taylor-Clarke dropping out of the starting eleven following last Saturday’s game.
Yate Town started on the front foot and dominated the opening 20 minutes and Rex Mannings should have put the visitors in front when Alex Monks’ pass put him through and with only Tiverton goalkeeper Zak Baker to beat, he blazed his shot wide.
Marlon Jackson headed straight at Baker from an Oli Jenkins cross and Jenkins tested Baker who pulled off a fine save.

However, after 24 minutes, with Tiverton’s first real attack, Aaron Sainsbury pulled off a good save but, as Yate failed to clear the ball Daniel Koita managed to steer the ball home to put Tiverton in front.
Yate Town responded immediately and when referee Ryan Cornelius pointed to the penalty spot after Oli Jenkins had been fouled by Brooklyn Wilkins, Marlon Jackson scored from the penalty spot to level the scores.

With both sides finding the surface difficult to play constructive football, as the pitch cut up, chances became more limited but Alex Monks shot straight at Baker after good work from Zebroski shortly before half time.
The second half started with early pressure from the home side and following a corner, on loan defender from Dorchester, Harry Hutchinson, put Tiverton in front.
As the hour mark approached Oli Jenkins broke forward towards the Tiverton penalty area and despite appeals for a handball by a Tiverton defender, who appeared to be the last man and was booked, the referee gave a free kick right on the edge of the area with Yate appealing for a penalty. Ex-Tiverton player, Matt Britton’s free kick was superbly pushed over the bar by Zak Baker.

Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, then brought on Corey Evans for Rex Mannings and five minutes later Evans levelled the scores when a long throw in by Josh Bennett caused panic in the Tiverton defence and Corey Evans managed to swivel and turn in a crowded penalty area to squeeze the ball past Baker to level the scores.
Zebroski brought at good save from Baker as Yate looked for the winner but in the closing minutes of game it was Tiverton who went close with Koita heading just wide and player manager Asa Hall crashing the ball against the Yate crossbar. But with five minutes stoppage time announced it was Yate Town who applied pressure and when Corey Evans found space on the left and drove into the Tiverton penalty area, he manged to slide the ball passed Baker from a tight angle and the Yate Town players celebrated in a style that showed great unity amongst the group.

This win was moral boosting and with another away game next Saturday, at fast improving Weymouth, the Bluebells need to continue picking up points with a third of their league season fixtures now completed.
