Jeffrey Forkuo on the ball
Newly promoted Yate Town started their season with a clean sheet and a point in a game that saw both defences on top, with Sholing having good periods of possession which they could not capitalise on due to the well organised home defence.
With James Taylor injured and Rex Mannings pulling up in the warm up the Bluebells starting with six players making their debut. The first action saw, captain Joe Guest head just wide from an early corner but thereafter, despite Sholing playing some neat football with Michael Folivi prominent, neither goalkeeper was tested in the first half despite Charlie Moody having a good effort blocked.

Charlie Moody shoots for goal in the first half.
The best chance of the game came on the hour when Sholing’s Dan Mason had his shot blocked on the line by Joe Guest and when Spencer Spurway followed up, he saw his effort superbly saved by Aaron Sainsbury in the home goal, who was making his first appearance for seven months following injury.
Both teams made substitutions on warm and sunny afternoon but these changes failed to break the deadlock.

Marlon Jackson’s header clears the crossbar.
After Marlon Jackson had gone close with a header and with full time approaching substitute Wil Tuner drove into the Sholing penalty area but from his pass Lloyd James’ effort just cleared the crossbar.

Substitute Wil Turner is closed down in the penalty area …………

…….. but he wriggles clear and sees his cross go into the six-yard box ……..

………. the ball is partially cleared before Lloyd James shoots over.
Five minutes into stoppage time Sholing won a free kick on the edge of the Yate penalty area but this came to nothing and both sides settled for a draw, which in the end was probably a fair result in a game which saw Sholing’s Harry Taylor a tower of strength in their defence.
For the Bluebells, Jeffrey Forkuo and Charlie Moody stood out, with Charlie Whie being impressive at full back but this was a real team performance and an encouraging start to the season as the Bluebells
head off for the next games, both away, at Taunton on Wednesday evening and at Hanwell next Saturday knowing that they have got a point in the bag and kept a clean sheet.
