After nine successive home wins this season Yate Town were held to a draw by a very good Mousehole side who were fortunate to return to Cornwall with a point after Yate had totally dominated the second half.

Yate Town captain, Joe Guest returned to the starting lineup after being suspended for the game against Westbury on Saturday with Ross Stearn dropping to the bench.

Yate Town had the first effort on goal after 3 minutes when Stan Wyatt’s shot was turned away by mousehole goalkeeper Oliver Chenoweth but the visitors soon showed their attacking ability when Tim Dixon’s pass allowed Hayden Turner to find space and his left footed shot went narrowly wide of the far post. A minute later Turner was again a threat to the home goal but he fired over.

The game was played at a fast pace with both sides showing their passing abilities and the deadlock was broken after 26 minutes when a cross from Turner from the left into the Yate penalty area saw Joe Guest get an unfortunate touch with his head and with the ball eluding Aaron Sainsbury in the home goal, the visitors took the lead.

However, they were only in front for four minutes as Stan Wyatt and Charlie White combined on the left and White’s cross found Marlon Jackson who scored form close range to level the scores.

James Byrne then tested Chenoweth from distance and Lucas Tomlinson curled a left footed shot just wide of the post whilst Torin Ntege shot just wide from Ryan Barrett’s cross for the visitors when well placed.

The second half saw Yate Town gain more and more control and after Ntege shot wide three minutes after the restart, Mousehole, were for long periods, penned into their own half. Marlon Jackson had a great chance to put the Bluebells in front on 56 minutes but when, partially clear, seeing the goalkeeper off his line, he lobbed Chenoweth from 25 yards but the ball went fractionally wide of the far post.

On the hour Lucas Tomlinson had to go off injured and Theo Jeremy took his place and further substitutions were made as Yate Town looked to press home their territorial advantage. Ross Stearn had a shot from the edge of the box well saved by Chenoweth, the ball was scrambled away from the goal line after a great run down the left by Will Larvin and following a corner from Lloyd James Marlon’s Jackson’s header was brilliantly tipped over by Chenoweth.

As Yate won a succession of corners, a Ross Stearn header was well saved by Chenoweth and then following another corner Joe Guest fired narrowly wide from close range. Will Christopher found space following another corner and fired just wide from the edge of the area.

With seven minutes added time allocated by the officials and with Yate Town still looking for the winner Mousehole won a free kick with little time on the clock and a chance was created for substitute Ross Derham, which he put wide.

This was an excellent game of football for the fans to watch and Mousehole played their part and clung on to a point despite all the pressure form the home side, the game keeping the fans enthralled right up to the final whistle.

Yate Town, sitting on the top of the Southern league Division One South table, now turn to FA Trophy action on Saturday when they entertain Hampton and Richmond from the National league South.
