Match Report: Yate Town 2-0 Bristol Rovers U18’s

Yate Town entertained a competitive and highly energetic Bristol Rovers Under 18 side with the Bluebells putting up a much better performance than in their previous pre-season friendly, scoring a goal in each half, whilst fielding a number of trialists.

The young Rovers side got off to a good start and went close early on with a shot flashing across the Yate penalty area and shortly afterwards, in the 13th minute, Brooklyn Leipus hit the woodwork.

Yate Town responded immediately and a minute later Dayle Grubb set up Rex Mannings whose shot smashed off the crossbar.

Rex Mannings controls the ball on his chest before going off injured.

Rex Mannings had to go off injured after 38 minutes and two minutes later Jack Witchard pulled off an excellent save to prevent the young Rovers side going in front.

With half time approaching one of the trialist curled a lovely shot past Will Wilson, in the Rovers goal, to put the Bluebells in front.

The second half saw Yate Town goalkeeper Arron Sainsbury make his first appearance for the club since early January, following his hip operation, and at the same time Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, made other changes with Theo Jeremy replacing Lucas Tomlinson and James Byrne on for Dayle Grubb.

The Bluebells scored an excellent second goal when one of them trialists delivered a fine cross from the left allowing Theo Jeremy to slot the ball home at the far post after 63 minutes.

This was a much more assured performance from the Bluebells and they now take on Frome Town on Saturday at the South West Interiors Stadium before the League campaign kicks off the following Saturday with a home game against Sholing FC
