Yate Town moved out of the bottom four with this deserved win against a Hanwell side who have been in good form recently. Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, kept the same side that drew 2-2 with Poole on Tuesday evening, following an impressive performance.

In a game played in windy conditions, full back Elijah Oladunjoy’s long throws for the visitors were an early threat and each side had early chances when Rex Mannings shot straight at Hanwell goalkeeper Sam Beasant and Henry Snee tested Aaron Sainsbury in the home goal. Yate Town went ahead in the 34th minute when Rex Mannings out muscled Hanwell defender Jack Matton and his pass to Marlon Jackson set up the Yate Town’s leading goalscorer to finish cooly by finding the bottom corner of the net, and before half time, Jackson nearly doubled the Bluebells lead when Beasant pulled off a fine save at the near post.

With Hanwell looking to get back into the game after half time, a header from Dwayne Ducan went just wide and a shot from Seidou Sanogo produced a wonder save from Sainsbury as he tipped the ball onto the crossbar.

Shortly afterwards Rex Mannings tested Beasant, who managed to push the ball to safety, but Yate made the game safe with ten minutes of normal time remaining, when substitute Chris Zebroski’s left-wing cross was side footed home by Rex Mannings from 6 yards out.

Hanwell’s only response was when Sainsbury saved a Jack Matton header, following a free kick, to ensure Yate Town’s first clean sheet in 9 weeks and with five games to go there is still all to play for to keep out of the bottom four. In a game that was not a classic, Yate Town earned valuable three points as they strive for safety come the end of the season.

The Bluebells now travel to play-off chasing Chertsey Town on Good Friday before the Easter Monday game at the South West Interiors Stadium, against Evesham United, with the side from Worcestershire just one place above Yate Town.
