Yate Town entertained fellow Southern League Division One South rivals Thatcham Town under the lights following on from their excellent FA Trophy win at Hungerford Town on Saturday.

Yate Town had a strong start, taking control of the ball and having a fair share of possession which eventually led to a foul being drawn giving an attacking free kick to Yate Town which was headed into the box but the chance was dealt with by the Thatcham Town defence.

Any Thatcham opportunities to attack were stopped by the Yate Town back line. However, having the fans there to support always gives the team the extra encouragement and drive they needed to work for that all important first goal.

Late into the first half Yate Town saw an opportunity which was capitalised upon. A great ball into James Taylor who took a fantastic touch, saw himself one on one with the opposing goalkeeper Callum Smart who made a great stop. Another ball played in by Taylor led to a cross from Lloyd James which led to a goal for Yate Town. However, this was an own goal scored by Thatcham Town player Oliver Bourne.

The second half saw changes made by both sides to try and push for that all important next goal.

Following these changes, both sets of players had to give one final push to the final whistle to try and get a result for their respective teams. In the last few minutes Yate Town won a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box and Lucas Tomlinson wrapped his left foot around the ball, hitting it with power far into the top left corner. A fantastic second goal for Yate Town putting them 2-0 up. Following this goal, very little of the game was left however one last substitution was made where Sean Keet came on for Lucas Tomlinson in order to bring on fresh legs to try and see out the game and secure victory for Yate Town.
