Match Report: Yate Town 2-1 Bristol City U18’s

Yate Town played their third pre-season friendly against a young Bristol City side who showed good skills and organisation and kept the game interesting right to the end for the fans watching.

It took only three minutes for the Bluebells to go in front when Rex Manning and Lucas Tomlinson combined for Tomlinson to shoot past Bristol City goalkeeper, Isaac Finch, who played the final last 9 games for Yate at the end of last season whilst on loan from the Robins.

With James Taylor prevalent down the right early on, he combined with Lucas Tomlinson to set up Rex Manning’s but his shot was blocked close to goal.

Bristol City then had a great opportunity to equalise but when put through the player’s shot curled just wide of the far post.

The hosts doubled their lead after 21 minutes when following a corner from the right, Joe Guest managed to flick the ball on and it looped into the far corner of the goal for a clever and inventive finish. Yate Town continued to create shooting opportunities but Lucas Tomlinson blazed over when well placed.

The second half saw the Bristol City side dominate the opening exchanges but Rex Manning’s effort ten minutes into the second half brought a fine save from Finch as the Yate player cut in from the right and riffled his shot towards goal.

But three minutes later Bristol City’s Pawell Kallowski broke clear of the Yate defence and curled his shot past goalkeeper Jack Witchard to reduce the arrears.

Shortly after the hour both sides started to make multiple changes and substitute Wayne Nderemani to set up one of the trialists who couldn’t quite direct his shot past Finch.

This was another good workout for the Bluebells but an injury to James Taylor in the first half and substitute Dave Sims-Burgess, only last a few minutes after coming on, before going down injured will be a concern to manager Darren Mullings.

The Bluebells host Portishead Town on Friday evening (7.45pm) for their next pre-season friendly.
