Pre-season friendly
Yate Town retuned to winning ways with an excellent performance in their penultimate pre-season friendly in front of a crowd of 302 spectators, on a warm summer’s evening.
Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings was able to start with both new signings, Ross Stearn and Marlon Jackson and despite conceding a goal in the second minute when Westbury broke down the left and the cross was tapped home from close range it took Yate the first quarter of the game to get into their rhythm.
Ross Stearn went close before a cross from James Taylor was volleyed home by Stan Wyatt who finished in style after 28 minutes to put the Bluebells level.
Will Christopher then hit the bar before Ross Stearn had to leave the field following a knock and it must be hoped that this is not a recurrence of the injury that has curtailed his pre-season.
Marlon Jackson in possession.
Lucas Tomlinson, who had a fine game, put Yate in front after 37 minutes when he curled a shot into the top corner of the net as Yate Town dominated play and before half time Lloyd James’ free kick was just over.
Marlon Jackson is thwarted by the Westbury goalkeeper.
The second half continued with Yate Town playing some excellent flowing football and it was Lucas Tomlinson who was again on the scoresheet after 52 minutes when his free kick from the edge of the penalty area evaded the defensive wall to find the top corner to put Yate 3-1 up.
Tomlinson, James and Ndermani all went close but Yate couldn’t find the fourth goal. There were a number of substations in the second half with young goalkeeper, Billy Pullin from the Under 18 squad replacing Aaron Sainsbury in goal for his first taste of first team action for the club in the closing minutes.
This was a very good performance against a team in the same league as Yate Town and bods well for the coming season.
Yate Town: Sainsbury (Pullin), Taylor, Nderemani, Dempsey, Hall, James, Tomlinson, Christoper, Jackson (trialist), Stearn (trialist), Wyatt, (Lewis)
