Mousehole 0-1 Yate Town – Match Report

Match Report
Mousehole 0 Yate Town 1

Yate Town made their longest trip of the season down to the tip of Cornwall for their first ever visit to play-off hopefuls Mousehole, knowing that despite the very cold weather during the preceding days, the Cornish climate enabled the game to be played, this being only one of two fixtures in the division that went ahead due to frozen pitches.

Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings, kept the same starting eleven for the third game running with the only changes being made on the bench.

The game stared in very windy conditions and it only took 6 minutes for the visitors to strike, Nick McCootie cooly slotting home a penalty after English-Brown was fouled by Morgan Lewis.

Yate Town continued to make chances with Calum English-Brown forcing a good save from home goalkeeper Oliver Chenoweth, Nick McCootie firing wide from a good position and Ollie Jenkins going close.

Ewan McMillan was booked for handball as the game became more of a midfield battle in very difficult conditions and Yate denied Mousehole a shot on target during the first half.

The second half followed a similar pattern as the hosts looked for an equaliser and Aaron Sainsbury in the Yate goal made a superb save from a Tallen Mitchell free kick and then excelled to block the follow up shot.

With Jack Ball on for English-Brown, who had been a constant threat to the home defence, Ball immediately made an impact having his effort cleared off the line and after the Mousehole goalkeeper flapped at the ball as McCootie challenged him.

With the rain now falling to add to the difficult conditions Yate saw out the remaining minutes to secure their third win on the trot and move up to 13th in the league table. In the last four games Yate Town have only conceded one goal, scoring eight times, picking up ten points and are undefeated in 2024.

Next Saturday they travel again, this time to Exmouth before home games against Tavistock (Tuesday 30th January) and against Melksham on Saturday 3rd February.
