Paulton Rovers 1-0 Yate Town – Match Report

Match Report – Paulton Rovers 1 Yate Town 0
Yate Town again produced a good performance as they outplayed Paulton Rovers for long periods of the game but it’s goals that win games and an early goal in the second half proved the difference between the two sides as the hosts gained a very valuable three points in this Boxing Day fixture.

Yate Town had shots blocked and cleared off the line but could find no way through a home defence that rode its luck at times but defended superbly with Paulton Rovers goalkeeper, Frankie Philips, in outstanding form.

The all-important goal came after 52 minutes when Paulton broke down the left-hand side, and David O’Hare scored with a strong shot cross shot from 12 yards into the Yate Town net. However, Yate Town and their supporters would argue long and hard that Oli Jenkins was fouled in the build- up to the goal. This was one of two major errors in the game that Yate Town considered the officials failed to properly punish.

The goal came during a period when Yate Town were peppering shots at the Paulton goalkeeper, but he was beaten only once and then a Paulton defender managed to be in the right place to clear off the line. Then late in the half, substitute Jack Ball was brought down when through on goal. Much to Yate Town’s frustration, the referee awarded a free kick outside the area, when most considered Jack had been taken down inside the penalty area. The free kick was blazed over the bar!

Yate Town’s dominance throughout the game caused Paulton to incur six yellow cards including two and a red card for our former player, Sam Pashen, sent off after 90 minutes, as they defended robustly. But Paulton held on for an important win that moves them away from the bottom of the table whereas Yate Town, despite all their good play, need to begin to take the chances they are creating, or find a goal scorer to finish of their flowing moves that their play deserves.
