Yate Town are please to announce an addition to their playing squad with the signing, on loan, of Cheltenham Town forward Sopuru Obieri.

Cheltenham Town's youngest ever player, Sopuruchukwu Obieri, signed his first professional contract ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. The 17-year-old made his first-team debut in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy in November 2023, aged 15 years and 303 days. The striker first joined our Academy aged 10 as the youngster broke the record for the most goals scored in a single Gloucester Primary Schools' FA campaign, during his time at St Paul’s Primary. An exciting and powerful striker, Obieri became the academy's fourth player in the space of a year to earn a pro contract when he put pen-to-paper.
Obieri spent time with Worcester City during the 2024/25 campaign, a great learning experience as the side got promoted from the Northern Premier League Midland Division. (Taken from the Cheltenham Town website).
Assistant manager, Paul Tovey stated:
We have watched Sopuru closely this season and he is a natural goalscorer that will supplement our forward options. He has scored goals for Cheltenham youth and reserve teams and has been in and around the first team squad this season and is highly rated by the League Two side.
