Yate Town 0-1 Frome Town – Match Report

Dylan Lewis against Frome Town

Yate narrowly beaten by Robins

After a good win in the FA Cup last Saturday Yate Town returned to League action when they entertained Frome Town and the only goal of the game was scored by the visitors in first half stoppage time.

Manager John Rendell made one change from last Saturday bringing in winger Jaden Brown with Andre Freckleton dropping down onto the bench.

Both sides went into the game looking for their first league win of the season and it was Frome, always offering the greater attacking threat throughout, who secured the points.

The visitors started the brighter and, after Zak Drew had tested Aaron Sainsbury in the home goal, Kane Simpson moved into the box only to shoot wide with the goal at his mercy.

Frome got in front right on the stroke of half-time. It was the hard-working Simpson who provided the assist and Jonathan Davies who added the finishing touch from close range despite a great save from Aaron Sainsbury to deny the initial strike.

Yate made changes on the hour to provide more impetus up front and it almost produced an instant reward when an effort from substitute George Box after being played through by Kyle Tooze, hit the post and ran along the line before being scrambled clear.

Dan Dempsey then gave the home side further hope when he picked up a loose ball before firing just over the top corner.

James Ollis almost extended Frome’s lead late on striking the post and Pierce Mitchell also went close before the visitors had to defend in depth at the other end to fend off Yate pressure.

Yate complete their Bank Holiday fixtures on Monday with the short trip to Bristol Manor Farm when they will be hoping to kick start their League campaign before heading off to Merthyr in the FA Cup against the team leading their division and who won their fifth consecutive game of the season.
