Yate Town fans walk to support the British Heart Foundation

On Sunday 22nd February a group of about 20 Yate Town fans, aged between 8 and 80, walked around the pitch, at the South West Interiors Stadium, 28 times (as there are 28 days in February) to support the club’s charity of the British Heart Foundation.

The group included assistant manager Paul Tovey, representatives from the club’s shirt sponsor, Graphic Packaging International plus some people connected to Yate United, who have links with Yate Town FC. Over half of the group completed the 28 laps around the pitch, which is a total of about 7 miles.

Yate Town chairman, Mark Thorne commented, “It was a great way to support a fantastic charity and to see the young players from Yate Utd and especially pleasing to see Justin and Michelle from the club’s main sponsor take part. Well done to everyone who took part.”

Whilst Justin May, the Bristol Plant manager from Graphic Packaging International said, “The last time I completed a sponsored walk I was 8 years old. On Sunday 22nd February, forty something years later, I started the sponsored walk at Yate Town FC.  Luckily the weather was one of the driest days Yate had experienced in many weeks. The challenge was to walk 28 times around the football pitch. The task was made even more difficult when the food hut started cooking and I could smell bacon on the completion of every lap. After just under 2 hours and 7 miles later the walk was completed and so was the bacon roll that I bought immediately after completing the walk. It was great to be involved in this charitable event supported by good company from people within the club.”

Half the money raised, through a JustGiving page, will be donated to the British Heart Foundation and the other half to the Bluebells Budget Booster, which helps supports Yate Town manager Darren Mullings’ playing budget.

Our thanks to everyone who took part in the walk and to the people who have doubted already, as we look to raise a total of £1000, which will be split as mentioned above.

The club has already raised over £600 for the British Heart Foundation this season
