A report about the media team for season 2023/24

I think that everyone must agree that the profile of the club has been greatly improved this season by the work of the media team.

We started with a team of Seb Parker and then Bob Chester, who joined in the summer, and then a photographer in Aaron Norman also became part of the group, after a request for a photographer was put out on social media.

In order to progress we needed an improved website and thanks to Danny Wilkinson and Mike Wyatt at YZ Designs this was in place for the start of season 2023/2024.

With the work of Seb Parker, who puts all articles etc onto the website and Twitter (and Facebook), and text provided by Bob – match previews, reports and manager interviews and player interviews became part of the routine and with both Bob and Aaron taking photographs, there is an excellent selection of photographs to add to the articles.

Manager Darren Mullings and the players have been very accommodating with regards to interviews after games.

The weekly newsletter also started in August and this was another way of getting the club profile out to fans and businesses with the Business of the Week started in November – to help promote the businesses who support the club. Mark Thorne helps support by linking in with businesses to help provide the text and any graphics for this feature. We need to monitor the newsletter more thoroughly as to subscribers opening articles etc. and to increase subscribers. The voting form linked to the Player of the Season has added a few new subscribers to the list, with about 800 subscribers at present. We plan to do the newsletter every fortnight during the close season (May and June).

With Bob now doing the PA at home matches it is Aaron who now provides photographs at home games and Bob doing the ones away from home, when possible, with Aaron still involved when available.

Other articles are included that go onto the website and social media with Bob providing the vast majority of text for this and sending it to Seb, with Seb then doing all the technical work via the website and social media.

In March Seb, Mark and Bob met Mike Wyatt at YZ Designs and the website was improved further. This is evolutionary and further improvement can be made as and when required. There is now an archive section being produced and we have also added an “In Memory Of” section to remember those who have been involved with the club but sadly are no longer with us,

Bob also writes a monthly report about what’s happening at Yate Town FC for the Boundary Magazine and the Yate & Chipping Sodbury Voice whilst John Herbert does similar for a magazine going out to local pubs.

We had hoped to provide short clips of match action via Veo but this has not been possible due to the issues with Veo. Hopefully this can be a feature for games next season.

The media team work well together and Joe Hollbrook, a student at SGS, has been partly involved when he did work, linked to the Pay What You Want Game in October, in order to help with his studies,

producing a film lasting about 12 minutes. Joe is now helping Darren with match analysis linked to Veo and hopes to be involved next season in this capacity.

In order for all this to work efficiently it requires a lot of commitment regarding writing the articles, (Aaron is great at supplying the photographs to Bob quickly after a home game), getting everything done on time to a deadline and get the information out onto the website, social media and for the newsletter – and making sure that what goes out is of a high quality.

And finally, when Yate Town are at home Bob supplies a match report for the Non-league Paper in time for their copy deadline.
