Yate Town fall to defeat in extra-time despite good performance.
Yate made two changes to the starting XI from Friday night, with Archie Taylor missing out due to suspension and Tyrone Duffus dropping to the bench.
In came Will Larvin he was able to make his first start of the season and Omar Taylor-Clarke. The bench also saw a return for Oli Jenkins who comes into the matchday squad for the first time this season after picking up an injury during pre-season.
It was a cagey start to affairs as both sides look to get a foot hold in the match.
The Bluebells would receive their first chance of the evening just over 15 minutes into the game. Marcus Day would pickup the ball out wide and drive in field from the right looking to bend his effort into the bottom left corner but unfortunately his effort went just wide.
Just after Yate’s first chance in the game the hosts came forward. Striker Martell Taylor-Crossdale got himself into a shotting opportunity and saw his effort saved by Aaron Sainsbury.
A couple of minutes later the hosts would come forward again as Felix Miles received the ball on the edge of the box and fired goalwards on the turn and saw his effort saved well by Sainsbury.
On the half hour mark the game changed, with a scuffle in the penalty area boiling over with Alex Monks and Martell Taylor-Crossdale being sent off, seeing both sides going down to 10 men, the remainder of the half saw both sides looking to regain the possession and adapting their shapes.
Just before half time Yate would get another couple of opportunities. The first effort saw the ball ended up with Marlon Jackson inside of the area and his effort was unfortunately saved by Jack Witchard in between the Chippenham Town sticks. In first added time Larvin worked himself into an opportunity. The defender advanced forward into the space afforded to him before lining up an effort just outside the area but his effort was saved by Witchard.
On the hour mark of the evening, Yate would have the best opportunity of the game at that stage. A free-kick was delivered deep and flicked back in by Jackson with it falling to Sam Hendy who saw his effort cannon off of the post as the hosts saw their blushes spared.
Five minutes later the hosts would take the lead for the first time. The ball fell to Ben Richards-Everton inside the area and he placed his effort into the top left corner giving the Bluebirds the lead.
However, their last would last as long as only two minutes. Jackson would get the Bluebells back on level terms with just over twenty minutes to play.
Sam Morcom delivered a teasing cross into the area with Jackson reacting quickest to the situation and heading home from close range.
15 minutes from time Yate would have the chance to take the lead late on. It would be Morcom once more who delivered a great ball into the area but it was just out of reach of the goal scorer Marlon Jackson.
In second half stoppage time Yate had the chance to win it at the death. Following a long throw down the right, substitute Joe Parker raced in on goal and hit it first time on the bounce but was just unable to keep his effort down, seeing the two sides go to extra-time after being unable to find a winner across 180 minutes.
Five minutes into added time Larvin would come up with a superb sliding challenge. Chippenham substitute Joel Odei-Larbi looked to be racing through on goal only to be stopped by Larvin at a crucial moment.
10 minutes into extra time the hosts would reinstate their lead. Following a long range effort which Sainsbury parried to safety it was Chippenham’s Felix Miles who reacted quickest to the rebound as he tapped home.
Just before the interval Yate came forward again. This time it was Day who looked to bend an effort home as he fired through a crowd of bodies by Witchard was able to save his effort.
Five minutes from time substitute Oli Jenkins had the opportunity to get things level once more. A cross was delivered from the right with Jenkins rising highest inside the area but narrowly headed over.
With just a couple of minutes left to play the Bluebells began to throw everything they had left at Chippenham. With the hosts defending on the edge of the their own box, Yate would get themselves into a shooting opportunity. Following neat play on the edge of the area it would fall to Parker inside the area who looked to place his effort into the bottom right corner but unfortunately his effort rolled just the wrong side of the post with Witchard stood motionless.
That was the last action of the game with the final whistle being blown, bringing our FA Cup journey to an end. Our attention now turns to the FA Trophy as we host Sholing.
