Match Report | Yate Town 0-3 Berkhamsted

Yate Town host Berkhamsted as both sides are in search of their first league win in their last three matches.

Berkhamsted got the game started and instantly applied the pressure to the home side. Ruben Bartlett-Antwi pounced on a misplaced pass which Aaron Sainsbury couldn’t quite get out to in time. His lobbed effort went just past the post.

The opening 20 minutes saw both sides struggling to keep hold of the ball. Berkhamsted had the majority of the chances with Jonothan Lacey and Luke Andrews troubling the Yate Town goal.

Yate Town’s best passage of play in the half so far came in the 34th minute. Marcus Day found some space down the right hand side and fired a low cross into the box. However, no Yate Town players were there to connect with it.

In the one additional minute of added time, Rex Mannings had a good chance to put the Bluebells ahead. Mannings rose highest to meet the floated cross but his effort was just over the bar.

The game got back underway in similar fashion to the first half. Both teams were struggling to keep hold of the ball for long but chances were still being created. In the 57th minute, Berkhamsted took the lead as a wide open Jeffery Sekyere found the back of the net from close range.

Despite going a goal down, The Bluebells responded quickly. Marcus Day broke away down the right hand side and his cross found the head of Mannings whose second headed attempt of the day was saved by the Berkhamsted keeper.

In the 67th minute, The Bluebells floated the ball into the box again where Matt Green worked himself open. His shot was looping towards the far corner but flew just over the bar.

A quick Berkhamsted counter attack would double the visitors lead in the 72nd minute. Ricardo German broke away down the left hand side and fired his shot low and hard into the far corner.

Berkhamsted added a third goal 15 minutes later courtesy of Billie Busari. A misplaced pass by Yate Town in a crucial area, which has been the story of the half for the hosts, saw Busari beat a defender and slot the ball away into the bottom corner.

The Comrades saw out the remainder of the game with three goals to secure the three points. Berkhamsted now move up to eighth in the league whilst Yate Town drop to 15th.
