Yate Town fans create dynamic atmosphere

Since February, the Bluebells have lost only one league game at the South West Interiors Stadium, as they raced to the Southern League Division One South Championship and are now establishing themselves in the higher Premier Division of the Southern League, having gained promotion back in April. The only defeat was in October when run away leaders of the division, Walton and Hersham, won 2-1 in a very close game. After this game, the Walton & Hersham manager, Billy Rowley, commented on the impact that the fans had and was very complimentary about them.

A group of local youngsters started watching the club, in February, at the 2-1 win against Falmouth Town. Their drum, noise and chanting, to support the team, makes a massive difference to the players and the match day atmosphere. They really are, with all the other fans, the club’s 12th man.

Yate Town players celebrate with their fans after their recent home win over Basingstoke Town.

Yate Town Chairman, Mark Thorne, said, “The difference the young lads have made is amazing, the upbeat singing and banging of the drum helps create a positive atmosphere and makes coming to the South West Interiors Stadium an entertaining experience. Fans from established clubs at this level have commented on what a fantastic group of young people we have watching our home matches. It’s no coincidence that our home form, since they have started attending, is second to none. This is the club’s future - young people supporting their local club - much respect.”

Yate Town manager, Darren Mullings added, “At our last home game, against Basingstoke, on a cold November night, the lads behind the goal came out in number; they make such a difference and create a great atmosphere. They really are our 12th man and are a big part of what we are doing and long may that continue. But I also want to thank all the fans that turn up as well, not just those behind the goal, as everyone has a part to play”.
