Match Report: Chertsey Town 1-1 Yate Town

10-man Bluebells come from behind to draw with league leaders, Chertsey Town.

Yate made two changes to the starting XI that drew with Chippenham Town in midweek, with James Taylor and Archie Taylor coming out due to injury and being replaced by Sam Hendy and Omar Taylor-Clarke.

There were also first squad inclusions for the season, with Joe Parker and Will Larvin being named on the bench.

Just after 10 minutes the first chance of the afternoon fell to the Bluebells. Marcus Day would go on to work himself into a shooting opportunity at the near post and see his effort turned behind.

From that corner, Hendy would deliver it towards the back post before it was headed back across for Tyrone Duffus who hit the post from close range.

10 minutes from the break Yate would come forward once more. Rex Mannings would get onto the end of a flick on before laying it off to Alex Monks on the edge of the box who fired at goal but saw his effort saved.

The Bluebells would come forward one again moments later. Marcus Day closed down Wynne-Roberts and forced the Chertsey goalkeeper into a mistake. His pass would deflect off of Day and fall to the feet of Mannings who attempted to bend one into the far corner but saw his effort saved by the goalkeeper.

Half-time | Chertsey Town 0-0 Yate Town

10 minutes into the second half Yate would go down to 10 men, as Ethan Streeter received a red card for a last man challenge with a Chertsey forward bearing down on goal.

Just over five minutes later the hosts would make the most of the man advantage as they took the lead. Following a cross into the Bluebells box the ball would fall to Ashley Lodge who fired past Aaron Sainsbury to make it 1-0.

Despite the setback and being a man down Yate would continue to come forward and give their everything to find an equaliser.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, they did. Hendy launched a long throw into The Curfews area which they failed to clear fully leading to a Joe Guest shot falling to Chris Zebroski who took his chance with conviction as he fired home into the bottom right corner to level things up and open his account for the season.

Despite going down to 10 men the Bluebells would continue to come forward in search of a winner. Two minutes from time the ball would end up with Day who took on his defender before looking to fire his effort past Wynne-Roberts but his effort was turned behind, with that being the last action of the match.
