Match report
Under 18s friendly
Tuesday 6th August 2024
Yate Town 1 Fairford Town 5
Yate Town U18s hosted Fairford Town FC for a friendly match on Tuesday 6th August at the South West Interiors Stadium. The aim was to run through match day operations in advance of the start of the season, in the South West Counties Under 18 Floodlight League, which commences with a home game against AEC Boco on Tuesday 10th September.
Tonight’s fixture was a great opportunity to review the squad in readiness for the FA Youth Cup game on Monday 12th August against Bristol Manor Farm.
Against a strong Fairford side a few mistakes at the back and some missed opportunities up front meant that the result flattered the visitors slightly. Kevin Contreras managed to score a consolation goal towards the end of the second half, but overall, the boys went home with smiles on their faces.
The experience for the boys was fantastic, watched by a crowd of over 100 people and a match day experience equivalent to that of the first team on Saturdays, plus they were all excited to be part of one club playing under one badge. … and to be playing under floodlights!
Yate Town Under 18s hope to do well in the coming season but fielding mainly U16 boys in the U18 league may mean that they will face some difficult opponents, but the squad are up for the challenge.
Please come and support us at every opportunity.
