Match Report: Yate Town U18’s White 1-0 Portishead Town

Yate Town U18 White returned to winning ways as they consolidated a mid-table position in Division 4 with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Portishead Town on Sunday afternoon.

The young Bluebells began with a midfield diamond, with skipper Kyle Porter operating at the base, behind Tristan Base and Billy Michael, with Freddie Tizzard given license to roam behind the front two of Stephen Adeniyi and Ethan Matthews.

But it was the visitors who made most of the first-half running, with Yate struggling to get into the game, and it was only down to centre-backs Billy Read and Zack Wigginton, goalkeeper Joe Tibbert and some wasteful Portishead finishing that the hosts made it through to half-time goalless.

The coaching team demanded a response from the side at half-time, and a switch to a 4-2-3-1 saw Yate begin to get into the game. Ryan Base and Riley Helliker impressed at full-back, after replacing Preston Fear and Cameron Nutt, while the introduction of Kian Bryant and Dom Hodges also helped Yate find some rhythm.

Clear-cut chances were still few and far between for both teams, but just when it looked as though they’d have to be content with a point, Man of the Match Stephen Adeniyi popped up to volley home Tizzard’s free-kick and win the match with his third goal of the season.
