Match Report: Yate Town U18’s White 1-2 Hanham Abbotonians

Yate Town U18 White came away empty-handed despite a battling performance at home to leaders Hanham Abbotonians on Sunday.

The young Bluebells competed well in the first-half, although they had a let-off in the 24th minute when the opposition number 9 smashed a shot against the bar. Yate gradually worked their way into the game, and Tristan Base saw a speculative effort from 35 drift wide. A golden chance came and went in first-half injury time but Stephen Adeniyi’s effort from Freddie Tizzard’s inch-perfect through-ball was well-saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Hanham were proving a physical threat, and with their number 6 dictating play from a deep-lying midfield position, they began to dictate the match in the early stages of the second-half. The opener duly arrived in the 55th minute as their striker was put clean through and slotted the ball between goalkeeper Joe Tibbert legs for 1-0. And it was two ten minutes later, as the Hanham winger curled an effort right into the top corner.

Yate had Man of the Match Tibbert to thank for keeping them in the contest with 67 minutes played, the goalkeeper producing a brilliant reflex save to turn a deflected effort around the post.

And the young Bluebells made a game of it with four minutes to go, Tristan Base bundling home a corner to halve the deficit, but the equaliser wouldn’t come.

Yate Town U18 White now have a gap before they travel to the same opponents for the final game of their league season after Easter.
