A mixed team from across Yate Town’s BCL squads secured a win against Bradley Stoke Youth U16s on Sunday afternoon.
After a cagey start, winger Luis Matthews poked home at the second attempt, after good work on the right by Pete Roberts, to give his side an early lead with 12 minutes played.
But the hosts were far from having it all their own way against their younger opponents, and the visitors grabbed a deserved equaliser with 20 minutes played after an off-side call was correctly overturned by the referee.
Jayden Brown pulled just wide after being put through on goal by the impressive Freddie Everson, as the young Bluebells sought to establish their lead before half-time, and in first-half stoppage time they did just that, Pete Roberts skipping past five challenges before rolling home a superb solo effort.
It was much more comfortable in the second half as their opponents ran out of steam. With debutant Olle Iddles becoming increasingly influential, Yate took hold of the midfield, and with 53 minutes played, Yate increased their advantage. Freddie Everson picked up a stray kick from the opposing goalkeeper and calmly lobbed the ball home from 30 yards. And ten minutes later it was 4-1, Logan Briggs curling a superb effort into the top corner from similar distance.
There was still time for a fifth as skipper for the day Josh Miles capped a Man of the Match performance by turning home Everson’s pass to secure a 5-1 win for his team
