Yate Town White slipped to a first defeat of their Division 4 campaign after a poor first-half performance at home to Stoke Lane Athletic left them too much to do.

The Bluebells were forced onto the back foot from the start, and it was no surprise when the visitors took the lead in the 20th minute. Stephen Adeniyi had to put his head onto a dangerous free-kick in the box, but the defender was unlucky to see the ball flash past Joe Tibbert and into his own goal.

Yate Town tried to get themselves going but it just wasn’t going their way, and they had to be grateful to centre-backs Adeniyi and Man of the Match Zack Wigginton for keeping them in the match in the first-half.

But just when it looked as though the Bluebells might make it into the changing rooms with just a one goal deficit, disaster struck on the stroke of half time. Archie Morrison wasn’t quick enough to clear in his own box, and the visiting player took full advantage to strike past Tibbert to double his side’s lead.

The home team came out for the second-half with renewed vigour, and there was an improvement in their performance. Wingers Freddie Tizzard and Kian Bryant began to look a threat, and striker Ethan Matthews was looking dangerous on the shoulder of the final defender. Morrison got himself sin-binned with 25 minutes to go, but even temporarily down to ten men, Yate were looking the most likely to score, and skipper Kyle Porter did reduce the arrears with a nice finish after a free-kick, but try as they might, Yate couldn’t find a way past a resolute Stoke Lane defence.
