Winger Freddie Tizzard was the catalyst as Yate Town U18 White got back to winning ways with an impressive 4-1 victory over Park Knowle in Division 4 of the Bristol Youth Football Combination League on Sunday.

Playing at the South West Interiors Stadium for the first time, the young Bluebells were quickest out of the blocks but found themselves 1-0 down with just 11 minutes on the clock. Preston Fear was adjudged to have brought down the visiting winger in the box, and the resulting penalty was duly dispatched.

The home team had sprung a surprise with their team selection, with Stephen Adeniyi starting as the number 9 having operated in the heart of the back-four all season, and it was he that brought the scores level in the 25th minute. Right-back Preston Fear drove into the opposition half before releasing Freddie Tizzard, whose inch-perfect cross was headed home powerfully by Adeniyi for his first goal of the season.

And the second goal wasn’t long in coming. Left-back Cameron Nutt intercepted a pass in his own-half and brought the ball forward before switching the play to the far side with a raking diagonal ball. Tizzard did well to reach it and drove a low cross into the box, where Tristan Base was on-hand to make no mistake with the finish.

The Bluebells gave themselves a two goal margin with five minutes to play until half-time. Dom Hodges was brought down in the area, and he picked himself up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot, and record his third goal of the season.

The second-half was mostly one-way traffic, and Yate almost grabbed a fourth in the opening moments. Billy Michael’s corner from the left was met by debutant Frank Griffee, but the midfielder’s effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the visiting goalkeeper.

Griffee had two more chances to register a goal on his debut, chipping just over in the 50th minute, and pulling a shot wide after another great linkup by Fear and Tizzard on the right.

The well-deserved fourth goal did arrive on the hour mark. This time Tizzard released Fear on the right, and the full-back drove into the box past a couple of challenges before driving a in a low ball that was turned home by a Park Knowle defender.

The visitors were struggling to cope with the pace of Tizzard and Kian Bryant in the wide areas, and Bryant had a couple of chances to increase Yate’s lead, while sub Ethan Matthews’ powerful effort was well-saved by the Park Knowle goalkeeper as the Bluebells had to settle for four.

Yate Town U18 White will be hoping to continue this good form as they face a trip to Hanham Abbotonians next Sunday.
