Development Friendly
Sunday 19th January 2025
With U18 Blue out of action, Yate fielded a squad made up of development players and a handful of Blue and White players as they took on Brislington Juniors U16 in a friendly.
In a fairly even first-half, the home side took the lead in the 21st minute. Logan Briggs and Archie Stanton combined well out wide to set-up Jack Perry, who turned smartly and rifled home from 10 yards.
Yate held on to their lead for the remainder of the half despite some strong pressure from the visitors, and they were indebted to Joe Tibbert in goal for a series of excellent saves to preserve their lead.
Yate switched to a 4-4-2 formation at the break, and the move paid dividends with just five minutes of the second-half played. Stanton’s corner fell to Cyprian Klawitter and the striker, who is continuing his return to action after a long-injury lay-off, poked home from five yards.
And five minutes later, it was 3-0. Briggs’ long ball forward was won by Klawitter, and he squared the ball to Harvey Cotter to finish well into the bottom corner.
As the hour mark approached, Perry grabbed his second of the afternoon as he nodded home Cotter’s free-kick from the right.
But the younger visitors, who compete in the top division of their league, slowly began to work their way back into the match, and three goals in quick time brought them right back into contention; indeed, it could have been worse but for Man of the Match Joe Tibbert, who produced a string of fine saves as Brislington pushed for an equaliser, including one world-class stop as he tipped a free-kick onto the top of the bar.
Yate finally put the game to bed with two minutes to go. Klawitter pressed the visiting centre-back, won the ball and tucked the ball into the bottom corner for his second of the afternoon.
The young Bluebells played some good attacking football, and showed character and resilience to keep themselves in front, and ultimately deserved a hard fought win.
