Match Report | Wimborne Town 4-0 Yate Town

Yate Town fall to defeat on the road in Dorset.

Yate made two changes going into Tuesday night from Saturday’s defeat on penalties at home to Sholing. It was Akai Bonnick and Ajay Weston who came in for Sam Hendy who suffered an Injury and Alex Monks who has now began his ban following his red card against Chippenham Town in the FA Cup.

It was a bright start for the Bluebells who had the first effort of the game just over ten minutes in. Charlie Moody marauded forward into the space afforded to him and then played it left to Ajay Weston, who was situated inside the area and fired at goal from close range, but Weston unfortunately saw his effort pushed on to the post by Wimborne goalkeeper, Kai Crampton.

Minutes later it was the hosts who would come forward, as they worked the ball into the yate penalty area and fired a close-range effort at goal, but Aaron Sainsbury stood strong to push the effort away.

Yate would come forward once more as Weston played it back to the edge of the area for Marcus Day who twisted and turned on the edge of the area, eventually working himself into a shooting and fired on his left but his effort was claimed by Crampton.

Midway through the first half Wimborne would take the lead through Cam Munn. The Wimborne player fired an effort from just outside of the area, with his effort beating Sainsbury and going into the back of the net via the post.

Wimborne would then double their lead five minutes later. A free-kick was delivered into the area by Cam Sullivan with Billy Walker tapping home from close range.

The hosts would then add a third with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. A long ball was played over the top of the Yate backline, with an effort then fired at Sainsbury from outside the area which he saved. However, Will Fletcher followed up and tapped home the rebound to give The Magpies a 3-0 lead inside 40 minutes.

To add insult to injury during the play for Wimborne’s third Archie Taylor picked up an injury whilst jumping in the area to head the ball clear. Ultimately Taylor would be stretchered off seeing his day come to an early close. We wish Archie a speedy recovery, get well soon.

In first half stoppage time Yate would get a corner. Sam Morcom delivered in towards the near post with Weston arriving, but he was unable to keep his header down, seeing the Bluebells go into the break with work to do.

Half-time Wimborne Town 3-0 Yate Town

Inside the opening 10 minutes Yate looked lively. Following a poor headed clearance it was Day who was quickest to pounce on the loose ball and went for goal from just outside the area but saw his effort blocked by a Wimborne defender.

Minutes later Wimborne would get a penalty as Cam Munn was tripped inside the area. It would be Lewis Williams to step up and take and fired his effort past the diving Sainsbury to make it four.

On the hour mark the hosts flashed the ball across the goal with Williams picking up the loose ball and fired from a narrow angle but Sainsbury stood strong to deny him.

Yate would get a chance 15 minutes from time to eat into the deficit as Weston played it inside to Day with the latter shifting it onto his stronger foot and firing at goal only to see his effort blocked by Wright.

With under five minutes remaining in the contest the hosts came forward again. Substitute Angel Diaz attempted to curl an effort into the far corner but saw his effort cannon off of the post.

Moments later, the hosts fired at goal again. This time it was Toghill who fired an effort first time but was met with a good save from Sainsbury in between the sticks, with that being the final action of proceedings.
